If you ask Julian: After just moving to Saskatoon in the middle of Covid and starting an Engineering degree I found myself with little to no social life. I had met a couple of people through Catholic Christian Outreach (see "Wedding Party" tab to meet some of them) who invited me to come to a Halloween party. Considering I only knew three or four people going, I politely turned down this offer and decided I would rather stay home. Much to my surprise I got a call and was no longer asked to come but rather I was required to go. So hesitantly I put on my best Colonel Mustard outfit (each of us a different Clue character) and joined them. When I walked in the door my first reaction was to find a corner to sit in and stay out of everyone's way. Shockingly I found myself sat right next to a gypsy... Since there was nothing better to do, we chatted for 30 minutes or so and then moved our separate ways in the party. The next day I found myself thinking about the conversation we had, and realized I had no idea who the gypsy was. After asking around the few people I knew, I finally got a name... Val. A group of us had already made plans to see a U of S volleyball game and with my new interest in a certain someone, I thought I would be so bold as to ask the group to invite Val as well and made sure she was going to sit next to me. At this game, we exchanged contact information which opened the door to get to know her better. I tried for a month to start conversations with her and was met with 'nice', or 'cool' or even no answer at all. I had almost given up when finally, she started to respond and even initiated some conversations of her own. This continued for the next month, until December 30th, 2021, when she agreed to go on a date with me. I realized that she was something special after our second or third date, and I informed Mom and Dad about my new interest in her. Unfortunately, our 4-month-old relationship reached the start of its long-distance phase as I had to move back to Calgary for the summer to work after completing my first year of school. As tough as those 4 months were, it gave Val the opportunity to come to Calgary for a week and spend some time with the Kerr clan. Once I saw Val interact with my family, I knew she was a keeper. Over the next 2 years I saw a future with her grow, and finally on July 17, 2024, asked her to marry me.

If you ask Val: I was just starting my Kinesiology degree in fall 2021 and was excited to meet new people. I had recently joined a group called CCO and they invited me to come to their Halloween party. This was the first big event I had been invited to, so I was very excited. I got all dressed up as a gypsy that night and made my way over to the party. The night was a blur as I met so many new people, but it was a blast. A few days later, I got an invite from some friends in CCO to watch a Huskie volleyball game. When I got there, there was one conveniently open seat next to a guy I didn’t recognize. I introduced myself only to sheepishly find out we had met at the Halloween party a few days ago. It seemed like a funny coincidence for sure. I got his contact information as well as a few other new people that I hadn’t met before to continue to build relationships in university. To be clear, I wasn’t looking for a relationship at this time, I just wanted to continue to meet new people. But this guy I met at the volleyball game kept texting me. To try and deter him, I answered with short, one worded responses. Most men would give up. He did not. After a month of this one-sided relationship, I finally decided to start responding. It turns out we had a ton in common with our love for volleyball, our competitiveness and sense of humor. One month later we started dating. These past three years of our relationship have involved eating too much ice cream, laughing until our sides hurt and getting to grow up together throughout the trials of university. Through it all, he became my best friend who always knows how to bring a smile to my face which is why I didn’t hesitate to say yes when he asked me to marry him on July 17, 2024.

We look forward to being able to have all of you join us for the start of the next chapter of our relationship and appreciate all prayers and support leading up to the big day. We hope to see you June 28, 2025!
