Weather

Cebu's dry season runs from January to April, and since our wedding is in April, you can expect plenty of sunshine! Temperatures can reach up to 34°C during the day, with warm evenings around 26°C. It’ll be hot and humid, with very little chance of rain — perfect for beach vibes, but don’t forget to stay cool! We recommend packing light, breathable clothing (think linens, flowy dresses, polos and cotton tees), and don’t forget your sunscreen, sunnies, and a hat!

Language

The main language spoken in Cebu is Cebuano (or Bisaya) — it's warm, expressive, and full of local charm! Most locals also speak Filipino (Tagalog), and you’ll find that English is widely spoken, especially in hotels, airports, and tourist areas — so don’t worry about language barriers! You’ll be welcomed with smiles and friendly conversation wherever you go. Money Matters

Payments are generally made in Philippine Peso (PHP), and most places still prefer cash — especially in smaller shops or local markets. We recommend bringing some cash with you, as not all establishments accept cashless payments. Don’t worry — there are ATMs and money changers available in malls and major establishments. If you're staying at Shangri-La Mactan, they also have an ATM and a foreign exchange counter on-site for convenience. Tipping is appreciated for many services: around 10% is standard at restaurants (but optional if a service charge is already included). It's also customary to tip hotel staff and baggage handlers at the airport. Just a little goes a long way in showing appreciation — and you'll be met with the warmest smiles in return!

Local Transport

For a smooth and stress-free experience, we recommend using <a href="https://www.grab.com/ph/locations/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Grab</a> — a local ride-hailing app that works just like Uber. It’s the easiest way to book a car and get around comfortably and safely. Taxis are also available, but be mindful — some drivers may overcharge. If you’re taking a taxi, look for one that’s metered, and always make sure the driver turns the meter on. Yellow airport taxis tend to be more expensive than the white city taxis. Public transport (like jeepneys, buses, and tricycles) is popular and very affordable, but it can be a bit tricky to navigate — especially if you're unfamiliar with the routes. For short stays, it’s best to stick with Grab or taxis for convenience.

Helpful Tips

To help you feel your best while exploring Cebu, here are a few handy tips: Stick to bottled or filtered water – Tap water isn’t always safe to drink, so it’s best to stay refreshed with bottled or purified water throughout your stay. Pack some insect repellent – Cebu’s warm, tropical climate means mosquitoes love it here too. A little spray goes a long way, especially in the evenings! Keep things light and secure – When visiting busy spots or popular attractions, we suggest leaving expensive jewellery and valuables behind. Keep an eye on your bags and be mindful when using phones or cameras in crowded places.

We're so thrilled you're considering joining us in Cebu for our wedding! As this will be a destination event, we’ve gathered some tips to help make your travel planning as easy as possible.

MACTAN-CEBU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

The most convenient airport to fly into is the <a href="https://www.mactancebuairport.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA)</a>. It's right on Mactan Island and only 20 minutes away from Shangri-La Mactan Cebu (or about 1 hour away from Cebu City).

Whether you're flying in from Australia or elsewhere in the Philippines, here are the best ways to get to Cebu for our big day:

Flights from Adelaide (ADL)

There are currently no direct flights from Adelaide to Cebu, but you can easily get there with 1-2 stopovers: Option 1 (Recommended): via Singapore (SIN)Fly from Adelaide to Singapore to Cebu with Singapore Airlines. This route includes a layover at Singapore Changi Airport. Option 2: via Hong Kong (HKG)Fly from Adelaide to Sydney/Melbourne to Hong Kong to Cebu with Cathay Pacific. This route includes layovers at Sydney/Melbourne and Hong Kong Airports. Option 3: via Kuala Lumpur (KUL)Fly from Adelaide to Kuala Lumpur to Manila to Cebu with Malaysia Airlines. This route includes layovers at Kuala Lumpur and Ninoy Aquino Airports. Option 4: via Manila (MNL)Fly from Adelaide to Sydney/Melbourne to Manila to Cebu with Philippine Airlines. Flights from Manila or Davao City

From Manila:Take a direct flight from Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Cebu with Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines or AirAsia. From Davao City:Take a direct flight from Francisco Bangoy International Airport to Cebu with Cebu Pacific or Philippine Airlines.

Airport Transfers

Visa and Entry

Australian passport holders can enter the Philippines without a visa for stays of up to 30 days. Just make sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended period of stay, and you have a return or onward ticket. Before flying, you'll need to register your trip on the <a href="https://etravel.gov.ph/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">eTravel Card online portal</a>— it’s quick and easy, and you'll get a QR code to use for arrival and departure. We recommend checking with your airline and any countries you're transiting through in case they have additional requirements.

For your convenience, we’ve reserved a block of rooms at Shangri-La Mactan. Special (discounted) room rates are available from Tuesday, 14 April 2026 to Wednesday, 22 April 2026. We'd love for you to make the most of your time in Cebu with us. We recommend arriving at least 1-2 days prior to the big day to settle in and relax. Transport

To make things easy and stress-free, complimentary shuttle buses will be available for all guests between the ceremony and reception venues. Shuttles will depart from Shangri-La Mactan Cebu lobby to take you to our ceremony at Sacred Heart Parish. After the ceremony, shuttles will bring everyone back to Shangri-La for delicious canapés and a night of celebration! We'll share more details closer to the date. - For guests who prefer to drive, there is free on-site parking at both Sacred Heart Parish (ceremony) and Shangri-La Mactan (reception) venues.

DRESS CODE

To complement our celebration, we kindly request guests to dress in soft, romantic pastels. Gentlemen: Suits or blazers with dress pantsLadies: Floor-length or midi dresses White is reserved for the bride. - While both the ceremony and reception will be held indoors, parts of the reception space open onto a beautiful garden area. For comfort, we recommend choosing footwear that is comfortable on grass or uneven surfaces.

GIFTS

Your presence at our destination wedding is the only gift we need. Should you wish to honour us with a gift, a monetary contribution will be gratefully received.

PLUS-ONES

As we want to celebrate our special day surrounded by our closest loved ones, we kindly ask that only the guests named on the invitation attend. Invitations will indicate if a plus-one has been included.

CHILDREN

We'd love to celebrate with you and your little ones!Children are welcome to join us at both the ceremony and reception. If you would like to celebrate without having to worry about little eyes and ears, childcare can be arranged directly with Shangri-La Mactan Cebu.

DIETARY REQUIREMENTS

Our wedding dinner will be served buffet style with a variety of delicious options to enjoy. We’re happy to accommodate any dietary requirements — please let us know of any restrictions or allergies when you RSVP.

COMMUNICATION

We will be using Facebook Messenger to share wedding updates and to stay in touch during our destination wedding. Important reminders and travel info will also be sent via email, so please make sure we have your correct details.

PHOTOS

Our ceremony will be an unplugged one — we invite you to put your phones and cameras aside and share in the moment with us. After the ceremony, you’re welcome to take photos during cocktail hour and the reception. We kindly ask that you hold off on sharing anything on social media until the following day.
