Demetero and I met in 2015, it was my first day at work at the Graycliff museum. I was sitting outside with a few coworkers when he walked pass us with his uniform in his hand. As I was looking in his direction our eyes connected and I said to myself “mmmmmm, this man look good nuh!” I looked at him and he looked at me and continued on his way. I was in a relationship at the time, so my thoughts didn’t go further.

A few days past. On this particular day I was working in the gift shop at the job, he came in to purchase something. He looked at me and said “Hi beautiful, how are you doing?” I looked at him dumbfounded and said to myself “why this man coming inside here!” It was seconds but it felt like minutes. At this point I’m feeling shy because a few days ago I was admiring how good he looks, and now he’s in the gift shop talking with me. I said to myself “hmmm, maybe this man is feeling me.”

As the weeks went on, we started to chat casually at the job and became friends over time. After a few months, I moved over to the chocolate factory. He would come there to visit me often. There was a girl on the job who liked him, they talked often but Im not sure what their intentions were towards each other, and I was still in a relationship.

Months past, and he and I continued to grow in our friendship. We texted each other more often, spoke on the phone, and he would visit me every time I worked at the museum. Every time he visited I would say to myself “Boy! This man up to something. Every time I’m working this man come in here.” And he would also make little comments like “I like you so much but you are in a relationship.”

At this time my feelings started to brew. I could feel my heart swelling up inside me. One Sunday I was off, and my friend Crystal was at work. We all worked at the same place. I said to myself, “I need to see this man.” I told my folks “I’m going to go see Crystal,” but ya’ll know darn well I was going to see this fine ass man. I was technically still in a relationship but things between us were very rocky and I was ready for the relationship to end. I got dressed, and caught the bus. I was a woman on a mission. Crystal and I walked around for a while, but all I could think about was how badly I hoped to bump into him.

As we were walking towards the cigar factory, I saw him and I started cutting up and playing shy but I really wanted this man to talk to me. He walked over to me and we started walking and talking together for about an hour, he must have forgotten that he was at work. This next thing is going to really surprise you; I even surprised myself. When I tell you I was a little fast, I reached in and kissed the man when we were in the room by ourselves. You hear me! I kissed the man. I was fast! How I get there doing that?! Yup! And that was it after that, I wrapped up the relationship with the other one. That kiss alone sent something straight to my brain. Everyday after that it was me and Crystal, lol.

We were hanging out every day when he left work, spending time together and really getting to know each other. Then one day, I could no longer hear from him. He disappeared. Chile, I was so hurt.

Some months later, I switched jobs and out of the blue I received a text from him saying “I’m going to watch a movie, do you want to go?” I said, “No” Was this man for real? I was still hurt about him blocking me. He kept asking, so I eventually gave in and said “yes.” We continued our relationship, and moved in together. I wish I could say it was happily ever after from there, but it wasn’t. We had some hurdles but our love conquered all. We worked through our minor challenges and this man decided he wanted to make me his wife so here we are. The love I have for Demetero is different than anything I have ever experienced and after all these years I will get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. He’s a good man, and he’s all mine.
