The easiest way to get to San Miguel de Allende is to fly into (1) to Guanajuato International Airport (BJX), which is 1.5 hours away from San Miguel de Allende by car (direct flights from Chicago, Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth) or (2) Querétaro Intercontinental Airport (QRO), which is 1 hour away from San Miguel de Allende by car (direct flights from Chicago, Houston and Dallas/Forth Worth) .

We have flown through BJX via Viva Aerobus and have not had any issues, however locals have recommended QRO for the slightly shorter distance to town, better and safer roads. There are however fewer direct flights into QRO.


The overall consensus is that regardless of what airport you choose it is always best to fly in during the day and if you do choose to arrive in the middle of the night it is best to stay at the airport hotel and then drive into town in the morning.



You can also fly into Mexico City (MEX), however, it is about a 3.5 hour distance to San Miguel by car or bus, but a good choice if you plan to visit Mexico City before or after the wedding.
