16 year old Jay, took a trip to his favorite retail store, Rue 21 on the hunt for some of his favorite jeans and graphic tees. To his surprise, he saw what he believed to be a mannequin standing near a clothing display. This mannequin, Mekena stood there folding and tidying up the hap-hazard clothing display. When she saw a customer approach the register, she walked over in preparation to complete their purchases. Jay struck up a conversation, and in when finishing up the transaction, Jay 'shot his shot'. To his wild surprise, Mekena gave him her Snapchat, and soon after they began seeing each other daily.

It was not until a long while later that Mekena learned that Jay thought she was a mannequin.

In the dull hybrid learning, winter months of 2021, after 2 years apart, Jay responded to a post on Mekena's Snapchat story which began the rekindled flame of their love. She had pointed out her love for Baja Blast Freeze's, no matter the temperature, which he would then begin delivering almost nightly after he was off work. Mekena began waiting the "check your door" messages.

February rolls around, and he delivered 42 individually signed Valentine's cards, with flowers, candies and of course, a Baja Blast Freeze. She was adamant that he was just a guy best friend, and maybe that was the case, until they began hanging out again. She realized that their connection was undeniable and in March, he made it official for the second time.

Years pass, Jay starts a new job, they move into an apartment together, Mekena transitions to a new role in her job, later graduates with her education degree and begins teaching. In September 2023, Jay popped the question, and here we are today, approaching our wedding, preparing for our the rest of our lives together, ready to celebrate with you all.
