After ignoring knee pain for 4 years, in the Spring of 2022 Piper finally chose to try physical therapy before resorting to surgery. This is where Piper and Matt’s story began, at OSSPT in Moore, Oklahoma.
It was Andrew Nicholas, CrossFit Exile’s gym owner, who recommended OSSPT to Piper. She went into physical therapy a bit pessimistic, as nothing in the past had helped her knees heal. She also started physical therapy just a couple months after swearing off dating and being content with the thought of being single for the rest of her life.
About a month and a half into physical therapy, Piper developed a huge crush on Matt and asked one of her best friends, Nicole, to find out more information about him.
Nicole quickly found out that Matt had absolutely no social media, but was still able to discover that he was one of the clinic’s owner’s brother. Obviously there was extreme hesitancy with that new found information. Piper made the decision to not persue anything further and let the crush go. That is, until she told Allison about her crush after a few mimosas.
Allison was a member of CrossFit Exile and also a patient at OSSPT at the exact same time. She told Matt about Piper’s crush. Piper’s immediate reaction was to approach Matt the following day, tell him “I’m not weird”, then run away. It was not long after that encounter the two went on their first date; Fuzzys. That date was the first date Piper had ever been on that she did not want to ever end.
It did not take long for Piper to realize she had found someone rare—the type of person so many people dream of meeting. Every pessimistic thought quickly vanished as she discovered the type of love that doesn’t make you question anything. She has never been able to completely trust anybody until Matt came along. As it turns out, going to physical therapy was the best decision Piper ever made (her knees are in GREAT SHAPE too!).
Matt told Piper he loved her for the first time at Scissortail Park, which is where the two eventually got engaged on July 29, 2023.
