Why St. Louis?
Becca and Shane live in Columbia, MO, but enjoy going to St. Louis for special occasions or weekend trips. There is always so much to do, and we fell in love with how unique The Thaxon is.
Why The Thaxton?
Simple - we wanted something unique. Since this is round 2 for both of us, we wanted to keep our ceremony and reception as non traditional as possible.
The Thaxton was constructed in 1928 as a retail store for Eastman Kodak (yes like the cameras), and has been recently restored to accentuate its Art Deco splendor. We are excited to share this unique experience with you all!
What’s the parking situation look like?
Since the Thaxton is located in the historic part of downtown St. Louis, parking is limited to metered street parking (free on weekends) and paid parking lots. Don’t worry though! There is more space than you think and there will be signage pointing to where you’ll need to be!
Can we arrive early?
Due to the venue restrictions, guests will be allowed to enter the venue for ceremony seating at 5:15pm. There will be staff present to assist with finding a seat.
Is there a dress code?
NOPE! Not even a theme. The reception will have a light Art Deco vibe (hence the speakeasy), but the bride and groom will be dressed to the nines – in non-traditional wedding colors – so feel free to wear whatever color you want. If you’re still unsure, think semi-formal.
Are children allowed?
Both the ceremony and reception are 18+, the afterparty at the bar is obviously 21+. Is this is an issue or inconvenience and you cannot attend, we completely understand. We have made very few exceptions to certain older family members, but please respect our decision to make this an adult only occasion.
Will there be food served?
DUH! If you know anything about the us, we love to eat! After the ceremony, there will be a cocktail hour with an open bar and appetizers until the bride and groom return. Dinner will be buffet style, and there will be other desserts available in addition to the cake.
What is the vibe of the reception?
Dinner and the first few dances will be traditional and light hearted. After the toasts and standard wedding events, we will be turning the party on its head and will really start to jam. This includes music that is not suitable for children or anyone that does not care for expletives and/or suggestive wording and dancing. The DJ will be making a formal announcement for the music style change for those who do not wish to stay.
What time does the party end?
Our venue will require everyone to be out by 10:30pm…. But the party is not stopping there. The bride and groom will be headed to the Crack Fox, a beloved local bar just down the street from the Thaxton. They are aware we plan to keep jamming there after the wedding, so feel free to join us - they even have karaoke!
