Back in 2012, I got dragged out of the house by Tyra for a day at the mall—I didn’t even want to go. But clearly, it was a blessing in disguise. We were shopping and hopping from store to store when we spotted one of our cousins across the mall. We went over to say hello, and they happened to be with some friends—one of them being Daniel.


After the quick interaction, we went back to shopping. But not long after, I noticed something… Daniel and my cousin were kind of following us around. It was pretty clear he was trying to come up to me. I was nervous and tried to escape—classic me—so Tyra, her friend and, I ran off to the ladies’ room. When we came out, there he was, standing at the end of the hall, waiting.


He asked me to come over and asked for my number—and the funniest part? I never even asked his name. I had no clue what it was! I remember thinking of all kinds of random names in my head, trying to guess. But the one thing I did remember was how good he smelled—like, so good.


That night, we talked on the phone for hours until we both fell asleep. Who knew that one random mall trip would lead us here—13 years later, getting ready to say, “I do.”
