I first saw Trenor at 6 am at a rowing practice and I remember a few of my friends immediately saying "Emily, look at that guy." A few months later, at the rowing team's annual ski weekend trip in Asheville, NC Trenor and I sat next to each other and talked about the music that Trenor was playing.
Over the next 2 years, we got to be really good friends! I moved into the rowing team's house junior year so Trenor and I would see each other frequently when he came over to hang out with the guys. I tried to help him with biology and Trenor got me through physics 1 in the fall of 2016 (literally cried after the final) after which he went abroad to Chile. We talked a few times while he was abroad and when he came back from abroad, he joined the executive board for the rowing team and we would see each other at those meetings.
One night after our friend group went out on Halloween my senior year, we had just dropped Trenor off at his dorm room when one of our friends made a comment about how they were trying to help me out with Trenor that night (looking at you Paul). I was confused and asked "help me out with what?" thinking we were already friends and I didn't need any help with that. Paul proceeded to tell me that Trenor liked me. I took at least two days to process this information (and made Paul repeat what he told me several times) and then finally texted Trenor to see if he wanted to hang out outside of the friend group. We started hanging out individually; getting smoothies, going to my sorority formals and date functions together, etc.. I took him out for his first drink at midnight on his 21st birthday and 2 days later he asked me to be his girlfriend when he drove me to the airport for Christmas break.
We agreed to do long distance knowing I was graduating soon. We texted all the time, face-timed once a week, and visited each other when and where we could: much more frequently once I moved to Baltimore for nursing school. In 2022 we were finally able to be in the same place and moved in together in Norristown, PA. Although we had both agreed that we wanted to live together for a while prior to getting engaged, we had been dating for almost 5 years at that point and I desperately wanted to know what the plan was (I.e. if/when we were getting engaged). After probably a year of me occasionally blurting out if Trenor actually did want to get married and if he wanted that with me which he always laughed at, Trenor surprised me by proposing at one of our favorite wineries. I may work in a Pediatric ICU, but I am incredibly gullible and a little oblivious outside of work so I truly had no idea this was happening. Obviously I said yes, although I don't think it's any secret that I would have said yes years ago, and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for us. We look forward to celebrating with you all in June!
