William and Mary met at a wine bar in the midst of 2020 when neither of them were quite sure what they wanted. For Mary’s birthday shortly after they met, and shortly after she sent the dreaded “Let’s be friends” text, he brought her a birthday cake, no strings attached. He left the cake for her and her roommates to enjoy saying “Everyone should have cake on their birthday” then went on his way. This sweet gesture has now dubbed him “Cake Boy” forever in the group chats. Over time, they grew close and realized they were the exact goofy, loving personalities perfect for the other. Will’s photography and cheesy captions were what sparked Mary’s interest in the first place and the photos haven’t slowed. Under the guise of “practicing” with a new lens, Will proposed at The POST in downtown Houston the day before Mary's birthday to recreate their first photo shoot together as “just friends" with the skyline as the background.
