We had Joe Kerner as our instructor for our dance lessons. My husband doesn't really have a sense of rhythm and really wanted to take lessons to avoid stepping on my feet. We came in wanting our first dance to be simple, and we had one lift that we really wanted to learn and fit into our routine somewhere. Joe was great at getting us comfortable on the dance floor, and our dance and lift turned out so well that we've been getting compliments for weeks on it.

Michael has been teaching dance in the greater Northeast Philadelphia region for over 10 years. He specializes in hip-hop and partner dancing (both competitive and social) with roots in Hustle, West Coast and East Coast Swing, and Ballroom. However, his passion (and longest-tenured specialty) is wedding couples and families! He does any and all combinations (mother/son, father/daughter, bride/groom, bride/bride, groom/groom, and even grandparent/grandchild)!

el Petroski from Top Hat Dance. Michael was great and understood exactly what we were trying to do. In addition to his 5-dance lesson wedding package we took a couple more individual classes just because we enjoyed it so much! He was able to explain and convey in an easy-to-understand way the moves and techniques needed to get the basic steps. By the third lesson we started to introduce spins and more complicated moves with the final lessons focused on putting it all together and finishing the choregraphing of our dance. Not only did we have a great first dance, but we have been able to remember and to use the moves since. We kept our dance lessons a secret to guests at the wedding, so they were all pleasantly surprised and said we looked BEAUTIFUL!!! As Beginners we highly recommend Michael to anyone who wants to look great during their first dance or get into organized dancing!

o work with, all four of us would go together and those were some of my favorite Sunday afternoons. He was patient and explained things super well, meeting us where we were ability wise. He also taught us useful basics that we could take with us to the dance floor on any occasion. My wife has a bit of a dance background which she was able to showcase in our dances while still keeping it manageable for her dad. asy to work with! We had our magical day, and we did our dance successfully and I can honestly reflect back and say taking dance lessons were 10000x worth it! It gave us the confidence we needed, and it taught us to do those wedding dance moves you commonly see, and we felt like a million bucks out there on the dance floor. Everyone loved our dance and song and we couldn’t have done it without Michael! We have one more lesson left in our package, but we plan on doing some more lessons on top of that cause it is just a lot of fun and great way to connect to your partner!

My dad was pretty nervous about dancing at all, and Michael was very patient and encouraging. He had a great method of teaching for beginners. This man has a gift! When it came to me and my fiance, he was thorough in teaching us many dance moves we could use, but also excellent in reminding us what would really make for a meaningful first dance--that we were in the moment with each other. Top Hat Dance Studio's wedding dance lessons are totally worth it. I loved both dances at my wedding. I also love having the memory and experience of attending the dance lessons with Ian and my dad in the months before the wedding.

initially tried another dance studio. And after the lesson, we felt hesitant about the dance and lost our excitement. Then, we found Top Hat and had our wedding dance lessons with Michael. After meeting with Michael and having our first lesson, we gained our confidence to dance. Micheal is very patient, super fun and sweet. We chose a Turkish song for our wedding in Turkey and he created a beautiful choreography for us. He took his time to show each move patiently until we got it. We actually looked forward to our lessons and had so much fun at our wedding. And now, we are thinking to try other types of dance at Top Hat. The place is spacious and the crew was always helpful with scheduling the lessons.

This was such a great experience. A friend of mine got us dance lessons as an engagement gift because she knew how much I loved dancing and that my fiance didn't know how to AT ALL...
. Michael was our instructor and he was so patient, fun and very easy to work with. Our schedules were hectic and he made it very easy to schedule even later during the week nights to insure we got our lessons in. The day of our wedding, our first dance was great and everyone loved it! We just learned the very basic fox trot, a few spins and an ending, but it was simple, classic and perfect for what we were looking for! I would highly recommend Top Hat Dance Studios if you're looking for some lessons before your big day, and definitely request Michael as your instructor if you can!

The package was affordable and a great value for the amount we learned. Our guests were so impressed and I'm thrilled we no longer have to do the middle school sway every time a slow song comes on. Five stars!

s and give great input for our dance. He was a great choreographer, especially considering our song was trickier than most ( it was LOVE by Nat King Cole, and we were ambitious in what we wanted to do!)
We ended up getting tons of compliments on our first dance, and it was one of our favorite things at the wedding!

s very flexible with scheduling lessons. We spaced out the lessons so we had time to practice. The more we practiced, the more steps we were able to learn! I would take lessons here again!

Top Hat and I'm going to miss him! Michael was so patient with me and my now husband. I wouldn't say we were the worst dancers that had ever stepped onto a dance floor when we started but neither of us had ever done that type of coordinated ballroom style dance before. Michael worked with us and helped us get the steps right and the moves to flow. After 5 classes we were looking pretty good!!
The guests at our wedding were pretty impressed with out first dance and it felt so good to have put the effort into making our first dance as man and wife so special.
I'd highly recommend taking classes with Michael at Top Hat if you want to wow on the dance floor!

onable, especially when we compared it with other studios nearby. We had five one hour lessons. Michael did a great job of gradually adding more steps each week until we had a nice variety of steps to make our dance look polished! And this is coming from two people who have never been very good dancers and certainly knew nothing coming into the lessons. It was also a relaxed atmosphere with no pressure. At the stressful time of wedding planning, my husband and I really enjoyed taking this time out of our week for ourselves.

Our instructor really pushed us, and while our dance wasn't perfect the day of, we had an absolute blast learning. I highly recommend Michael and the rest of the staff!
Oh - and some advice if you're considering lessons, start early and buy multiple packages (or attend the group classes!) - it's harder than it looks.

uctor was funny and patient and it was generally enjoyable to be there. The only down is that sometimes you have to practice with another couple in the room but it's not so bad once you get over it.
