Frances is the best. There are no other words, her and her team did an amazing job. My grandma passed away a few months before my wedding and they were able to sew parts of her dress into mine. They were so kind and reassuring!
While the staff was really nice and the prices were reasonable, one of the clasps snapped on my dress two hours into it being bustled. Additionally, they lost the back paneling I had removed from my dress as well as a plastic envelope of dress pieces and buttons from family members' wedding dresses. They were in the outside pocket of the garment bag when I dropped it off, and while I had asked them to sew them inside the dress and they claimed they had no record of that, I just wanted the pieces back and they still couldn't find them. I left my phone number to be contacted the next day, as it was the day before my rehearsal dinner so I didn't want to leave my dress and rehearsal jumpsuit there, and I was never contacted. The jumpsuit was modified as requested and I had no issues with that one. 2 months later, I still haven't heard anything or even been apologized to. Other friends later shared they also had negative experiences, and I was shocked since I was referred here by my bridal dress boutique.
Only use this business if you like playing Russian Roulette! They damaged my US Navy Service Dress Blues which had been hand tailored in Italy. Their so called "seamstresses" have zero skill and the business won't take any responsibility for the damages. Stay away. Far away.
Frances altered my daughter's wedding dress for her late October wedding. She, and her work, were phenomenal! She knew exactly what to say to my daughter to calm her nerves and assure her that all would be perfect on her wedding day. She did not disappoint and I would highly recommend her.
Brides please stay away. She does fine work but is completely disorganized. I took my mom’s veil to her for her to alter. And she lost it! She originally told me it was in the bag when I went to pick up my dress, and I didn’t check the bottom of the bag because it felt like it was in there. I ended up finding it on her veils for sale rack. And she hadn’t altered it. She quickly cut it in like 10 minutes and it turned out very uneven and looks bad in my photos.
My dress fit lovely, but she was supposed to sew a hook into my dress because it was a little loose and I was worried about the zipper coming undone. She didn’t do that, so my photographer had to sew me into my dress.
Save yourself some stress and stay away.
After the seamstress I was planning on using fell through just weeks before my wedding, Frances took my appointment and ultimately scheduled three fittings in time for my wedding. Her prices were very reasonable and she was very kind and worked with me to be sure I was comfortable with how my dress fit. She also hemmed my aunt's dress and altered my mom's dress!
I took my red wedding dress here for some alterations. The small alterations were done fine. However, I wanted the nude lining replaced with red lining in the skirts only. Which I stated multiple times, but no notes were taken at any point, so this was overlooked until I decided it was getting too close to the wedding and I wanted to take it elsewhere. (They had the dress for 6 months at this time) They asked for one more chance to finish it... which I allowed. When I returned the DRESS HAD BEEN DYED!! Which had never been talked about. I assume it was an attempt to change the lining color instead of replacing it like I asked. The embroidery and illusion neckline were all burgundy instead of red and the dress had SHRUNK! A red lining was put in after the dye failed but it was uneven and on top of the still existing nude lining...that was longer.
I was in shock and just had to get out of there when I saw what had been done. There was no excuse given for the dye job. It was important to me that the dress was bright red, so I ended up getting a completely different dress. I asked to be compensated for the $1200 dress that was ruined once I had researched and talked with other seamstresses to see if anything could be done (nothing could). They refused, and didn't offer me anything. Not even an apology.
So if you don't care that much about the item you are getting altered...go here.
I can’t say enough good things about Alterations by Frances! She is amazing! She does amazing work for an amazing price. I love her boutique place and her customer service. Absolutely recommend!!!
Frances did a beautiful job converting my full length wedding gown with train into a tea-length dress. It was exactly what I wanted and very nicely done.
I have also had them do some other alterations for me since they've done the dress.
6 weeks before the wedding, I put my dress on and realized it was about 3 sizes too big. I knew it needed alterations but began to panic that it was far too big and would cost an arm and a leg to fix and might not be ready in time. Then I went to Frances.
She immediately put my mind at ease and was a joy to be around. We talked and laughed during my appointments and her work was timely and reasonably priced. My dress was amazing and I was told several times how the dress looked like it was made for me!
I am now planning on taking several other everyday items and dresses to her for alterations! She is the BEST!!!
If I could give 10 stars, I would! I could never begin to describe how much of a God send Frances was for me over the past few weeks. I have been through hell and back over my wedding dress. It was the dress of my dreams and after going through a terrible experience with my dress shop (European Bridal- which closed and the owner took off with my dress AND money), finally getting the dress by paying for it a second time (in a size 18 when I measured at a 10 or 12 MAX), and having a seamstress basically butcher the dress in Connecticut where I live, I found Frances. I was only supposed to get my dress steamed by her but once she saw how distraught I was over the state of my dress, she immediately started on alterations. It wasn’t easy after what the other seamstress had done to the dress, but after a few fittings Frances had made it perfect again. She worked tirelessly and was so incredibly kind and supportive of me through the whole ordeal. To top it off, she barely charged me anything. She is worth so much more than what I paid. I would recommend Frances to ANYONE for any work they need done... ESPECIALLY bridal or anything couture.
Frances did an absolutely amazing job when altering my wedding dress. She really is knowledgeable about what she does and my dress turned out beautifully! It was comfortable and fit perfectly!
Incredible work, efficient, and reasonable prices!
I absolutly loved working with Frances and her team. Every appointment was perfect and my dress is amazing. She was price conscience and considerate of my requests. I will continue to use Frances for my every day items and big events in the future.
I love Frances! She was great to work with, affordable, and she does event rentals!! Long story short, she did my alterations and provided about 100 pieces to decorate my ceremony and reception. Frances rocked it out! Thanks, Frances!
Amazing price and wonderful staff! I went here to get my bridesmaid dress taken in. They got it done in a week and was only $25. They were so prompt and knowledgable about everything. You can tell they love what they do. I'm taking my wedding dress here to get altered this month.
