After multiple attended weddings where the music situation was... lackluster, we both knew that a great DJ isn't just someone who knows how to mix your favorite music, but they control the vibe throughout the entire evening. Enter DJ Matt Roan: an extremely personable individual who was so great to collaborate with when it came to each of our tastes in music, the vibes we were looking for each stage of our big day, and generally just so willing to work with us to ensure our vision came to life. From the initial meeting, we knew we were in great hands, yet he still somehow blew us away even further. We're obviously biased, but this was the best DJ we have ever experienced at a wedding. The only reason we are so insistent about it is because of all the guests of varying ages that are STILL complimenting us on how awesome Matt was. Our dance floor was never empty! And as a surprise bonus?! He even shared the wedding mix with us afterwards in case we ever want to reminisce about our big day, or tear up our living room like a dance floor. I have never seen my uncle dance and my aunt is always upset that she is not able to get him to dance. He danced the night away until the wedding was over. This was a highlight for me! We also had kids at the wedding and one of the kids was having a ball on the dance floor and told his dad, “This is the best night of my life!” DJ Matt truly plays beats for all ages! One of our guests also recognized Matt because he and his wife used to follow Matt around Chicago to listen to him when he was DJing at Chicago clubs. Matt is highly reputable and very well known in the Chicago area. He still DJs at some of the hottest clubs in Chicago, which is something we were excited about when choosing Matt as a DJ. Leading up to the wedding he was very EASY to work with and was very responsive to emails. Before the wedding, we filled out a questionnaire so he could understand the kind of music we would like played. We also made a list of songs/artists that we like. He hit a homerun in the music and vibe we hoped for at the reception! We also had a couple of special requests, and he was more than happy to accommodate and make it the reception we envisioned. For example, we had a QR code and let the guests vote on the first song to open the dance floor. Matt helped us with recommendations for songs that would be good to open the dance floor with. We also played two German polka songs during the reception for my grandma so she could have the opportunity to dance. I sent Matt the link to these songs on YouTube and he had no problem working it into the reception. My maid of honor also had a special request and wanted a song played during her speech. I connected her with Matt via email and again he was so accommodating and made it happen! Matt also edited the father/bride dance and mother/groom dance to shorten the songs. He edited the songs perfectly. He would have edited our first dance song, but since we took dance lessons the studio edited the song for our choregraphed dance. Lastly, one of the best parts of working with Matt is receiving the ENTIRE playlist after the wedding! We are able to listen to the playlist and relive the night for the rest of our lives. This was such a nice touch and the cherry on top of the cake working with Matt. Overall, we highly recommend DJ Matt Roan. You will be in good hands hiring him as your DJ and you will not be disappointed!

Matt was patient about my (way-too-precious) approach to our must-play list, helped trim certain songs to fit our plans, and threw out some really fun suggestions that easily fit into the vibe we were shooting for. On the night of, Matt quite simply brought the house down for 3.5 straight hours. He seamlessly wove the playlists we'd sent along into other songs perfectly suited for what we wanted, including some transitions that inspired audible reactions from some of our more music-loving guests. He knew the right songs to play when, and knew exactly how much room to let each one breathe. Everything what you'd want from a great wedding DJ tasked with curating how your party is supposed to feel. I'd spent a long time thinking about and planning what I wanted the music at my wedding to feel like (probably too much, honestly.) And Matt's final version was better than anything I could have hoped for. He helped make the biggest party we'll ever throw into the party we envisioned. If you can, hire this guy as your wedding DJ. I promise you will not be disappointed.

As the bride, I also loved getting a thumbs up and a smile as I headed down the aisle! We filled out a questionnaire with some random songs we liked but Matt made them all better by mixing them all together perfectly to create the perfect flow and vibe. The vibe felt like us, but in a much cooler way that we could never have put together on our own. We have been bragging about him nonstop since literally every single guest has commented on how amazing he was. Many of them (including us) have plans to catch him at an upcoming show!! Sure I could go on and on about how he’s the rare combination of intuition and experience, style and humility, kindness and confidence…. But that’s still selling Matt short. You have to have had the Matt Roan experience to catch my drift. He is by far one of the best DJ’s we’ve ever worked with, and that’s over 250 people considering my husband and I have been wedding photographers and videographers for 10 years. His professionalism and organization is outstanding. His curation to his clients is impeccable. He makes the most fun part of weddings even MORE exhilarating. And he’s got killer taste, in fashion and, more importantly, in music. Matt is, by far, the best decision we made for our destination wedding in Kauai. Everyone still talks about our dance floor and I give Matt 100% of the credit. We knew he was good, in fact, throughout wedding planning I referred to Matt as our secret weapon, but all 140 guests were BLOWN AWAY by Matt’s joyous nature, sick beats, and dare I say ‘great vibes.’ Even my austere, 83-year-old, Japanese grandmother who makes everyone WORK for even the tiniest compliment said the Dj was her favorite part of the wedding. “He just was smiling the whole time, having a blast.” If Matt can win over the matriarch of my family, he can win over anyone. He’s an ingenious music man, but also a tremendously charismatic and positive MC, which is an often overlooked attribute in a great DJ. His remixes, transitions and music selections were exactly what my husband and I wanted. Our wedding turned nightclub kept everyone on the dance floor until our venue had to throw us out. And now, 6 months later, people are still commenting on how great the music was. So if you're looking to "drop it like it's hot" for your wedding, you have to talk to Matt. He absolutely will not disappoint and you'll truly end up with a night you will never forget.
