We picked a different bakery for our wedding cake both because we did not love the cake, but mostly because the customer service was lacking and I would not want to work with this bakery going forward. The cake is good, it's exactly as advertis...ed: very heavy (you get to hold a cake to check for yourself), very dense, incredibly sweet, and moist. I lean toward the light, spongy cakes with lightly sweetened buttercream/icing. My fiancé, who likes all kinds of cake, found the batter to be yummy, but honestly, not really better than any of the other cakes we tasted (including the one we selected). We tried the lemon crowd favorite, and that was so incredibly sweet. I was told that all the cakes were. Bottom line, if this is the kind of cake you like, you will be pleased with the taste, however, don’t expect to have different layers in your cake that are lighter or that have less sweetness. Customer service was disappointing. I contacted the bakery in May through one of the wedding websites Robyn replied and I noted the appointment time and date (June 28). I did not receive a confirmation with the time, and followed up last week. Our tasting was scheduled in Sterling. Well, we got there, and it was locked. I called the Reston bakery location and was told that Robyn had no record of our appointment because 1) Robyn doesn't do tastings; 2) Robyn doesn't schedule appointments, 3) They hardly ever do tastings in Sterling, and 4) They NEVER do tastings in Sterling on a Sunday. Well, wouldn't that have been useful information before we drove all the way out there? I was then told "well at least come in and try our cakes we are the best." When I said well we had to wait a month for this appointment, I was told "yes yes, we book months in advance." I said, Ok never mind we'll go with someone else," suddenly the tune changed to "well, for example this weekend on Saturday we only had a few bookings, we'll call you back." (!).We were pretty set on another bakery but everyone kept telling us to try this one. Not wanting to wait a while, we decided to just drive to the retail location and buy a slice of cake. When we got there, we introduced ourselves to Ginger, who spoke with us on the phone. She graciously offered a free slice of cake - thank you! It is clear that Robyn both forgot about our tasting AND also had to go fix another bride's cake at the same time. We scheduled another appointment before we left (and tried our slice of cake) but we will cancel that since we already booked a baker. Someone who makes delicious cakes and is very responsive and creative. Maybe this bakery is the victim of its own success. Their attitude felt along the lines of "well we are the best, so you'll put up with our customer service if you want to get the best." We are still waiting for Robyn to email us and apologize for the inconvinience. For us, they were not the best cake we have tried, so it was easy to go with another vendor who made delicious, gorgeous cakes and actually (gasp) communicated with us!
