I would definitely recommend Jim Canole for anyone’s wedding! We chose Jim as our photographer because we were looking for a documentary style photographer, to tell the story of our wedding through pictures. We weren’t hiring a videographer in addition, so having our special moments caught as candid photos was really important to us. From our initial meeting with Jim, through our wedding day and production of our final photos, Jim was very professional and easy to communicate with. We were planning our Boston wedding from NY, so it was great that we were able to meet on Skype to go over the structure of the day and any important shots we wanted incorporated. Then we left it up to his expertise to capture our wedding day through photos. We really couldn’t be happier with the end result! We have hundreds of gorgeous photos to frame and to put in an album. Jim gave us the option of making an album for us, but we chose to make our own just based on personal preference. However, the albums we saw in his office were beautiful. We could not be happier with our decision to choose Jim Canole as our wedding photographer, and would recommend him to anyone.

Jim was great! He photographed our wedding and did an engagement shoot beforehand. I was a very animated bride and he was able to capture all of my emotions throughout the big day. Very happy with our photos, very candid!

I was very picky when selecting our photographer. I was looking for someone who could cover the basics and more importantly capture the moments throughout the day. Jim did just that!!! Jim was easy to work with and flexible. He had the larger picture in his mind from our prior convos and was great at suggesting things as they popped up or receptive to our last minute ideas. He never felt instrusive and you can tell he loves what he does!! We have so many beautiful pictures to pick from.

Jim is so great!! My guests loved him. He was no where and everywhere according to my pictures. I never felt like he was hovering. He has this talent with his candids to catch the pure emotion or heart of his subject. They were my favorite ones. Jim had been the photographer at my sister's wedding, so we knew we didn't have to go far to find the best photographer to capture our day. Jim and I have known each other a while. He has done my senior pictures and now my wedding. This is the second wedding in which we asked Jim Canole to be our family photographer, and with great reason. Our expectations for this current wedding were exceeded by Jim! From pre-wedding planning, to coordination before and during the wedding, to complete capture of all aspects from "spontaneous" to planned, to ensuring that all attendees and every corner of the family and friends present are remembered, to being "present" yet transparent at the event, to "owning" every aspect and detail, to prompt review of photo's, to an easily navigatable website that allows rapid and easy viewing and downloading of high definition pictures, to a beautiful display to a total ease and delight in working with him, Jim is a "best of the best". For cost, value, product, quality and for your most important life cycle events we would not consider any other photographer. Jim Canole is beyond 5 stars!

Jim was fantastic! We were recommended Jim by a family friend and we are so glad we chose him! We first spoke with him over the phone for the initial consult. A month or so before the wedding we met in person and Jim took the time to go over in detail the timeline for the day and if there were any specific shots we'd like him to capture. He made a lot of helpful suggestions that we had never thought of, such a lightening and the timing of the moving pieces of the day. When our big day came Jim was there on time ready to go! Our wedding was in December in Vermont and I wanted formal shots taken outside since we had such a gorgeous backdrop, and Jim moved quickly (so we werent out in the cold for very long) and they are STUNNING!!!! I couldnt imagine them to be any better. The photos of all our friends and family during the reception enjoying themselves has been wonderful to see. So many of the small special moments that happen organically throughout the night Jim was able to capture. Not only is Jim's work beautiful, but he is prompt, sending us our digitals only a few weeks later! We still haven't decided what our favorites are that we want to print, there are so many to choose from! Jim photographed our wedding in June and he did an amazing job! He was very personable and professional, and the photos he took were beyond our expectations. My husband and I decided to not get a videographer for our wedding so we wanted a photographer that could document our wedding day and tell our story through stills, and that is exactly what Jim did. When we received our photos (which was less than 10 days!) my husband and I were able to relive our wedding day and now we will be able to every time we look at these photos. Jim was amazing at photographing those candid moments and a lot of the time we found ourselves asking, "When did he even take that photo?" It was like he was everywhere all at once but doing so ever so discreetly. There is only one chance for your wedding photos to be what you dreamed and hoped they would be. With Jim Canole, they exceeded every expectation. Every important moment was captured with the most authentic facial reactions, in a photojournalistic, but also artistic way. The beauty of so many photos has taken our breath away. It was a very long day from getting ready in the hotel, to the church for the ceremony, to formal photos in a park, to the cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing. Jim was great! He was flexible and accommodating — very careful to listen to what we wanted and envisioned for the day — and extremely professional, always very responsive by phone/email, and always on time! We loved that he was able to get creative with us on the day with our bride/groom shots, and really take advantage of our slightly unusual setting (Mount Auburn Cemetery). We were definitely very happy with the end results! His rates are definitely very reasonable, too. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

As we were planning our wedding friends kept telling us that having the right photographer is difficult but essential for the day. At the time I really didn't understand what they meant, but now that the day is over I completely understand. As the bride/groom of the wedding the day FLIES by in ways you can't even describe. You want someone who will not only capture the moments of the day but also the FEELING of the day. Jim Canole did just that! Any photos could show you the day, and many of the photos friends took on their phones show the events. Jim however captured the emotions of the day as they were happening. As a result of his PHENOMENAL skill capturing those emotions, we can truly relive the best day of our lives. Jim out did himself. You can see in each of our photos that Jim cared as much about our wedding day as we did. If we ever got the chance to do the day all over again, Jim would be the first person I called to hire.

Jim was just excellent. We booked with him a year before our wedding based on other reviews, and we were not disappointed. Jim was a consummate professional, on top of scheduling pre-wedding calls and took the time to understand what we were looking for. Day of, he easily managed our 16 person wedding party, was patient when I was uncomfortable having my photo taken and hit every special photo request we had (plus some others we didn't know we'd want). Lastly and most importantly, when we got our photos back they were amazing! I don't know how Jim managed to remain in the background during our ceremony and reception yet not miss a single moment. We couldn't be happier, and we'd book with Jim again.

Jim is such a terrific photographer. We were so happy with how all of our pictures came out! His candid shots are amazing and he's like a photographic ninja in the sense that you don't even notice he's there taking the pictures, yet somehow manages to capture the best shots! Some people may hire multiple photographers to ensure that no shot is missed, but I guarantee you that Jim will not miss a single shot. Jim took some stunning photos of our engagement and wedding day. From the first meeting for the engagement shoot, we could tell he was personable, enthusiastic, and easy to work with. We are a bit difficult to photograph, but Jim was able to get some flattering poses. On wedding day he made sure to capture the specific moments that we discussed as well as many candid moments during the reception while being unobtrusive, and even climbed a wall to get a full overhead shot of all the wedding guests and party. His style is photojournalistic, so there isn't a lot of focus on still shots of wedding items, but he will cover the basics. We have been enjoying looking at the pictures showing us the good time and happy memories we and our guests experienced. Thank you Jim!

He was very detail oriented and well prepared that he took a lot of time communicating with us who and what we want to be in the photos to remind us our most special day. On our wedding day, Jim worked very hard and was great capturing the candid and special moments. Our parents really enjoyed working with Jim as well, since he's so unobtrusive as a photographer, but nice and caring as a friend. We are very happy with our photos and very glad we had him to be the one who remind us all the precious memories of the day!

My experience working with Jim was stellar from start to finish. I would recommend him again and again. Jim was our first choice from the moment we saw his portfolio. Jim's pure talent at capturing emotion in a candid moment really stuck out to us over other work we reviewed. Since my husband and I both believed that making a decision to hire a photographer was one of the most important decisions of the wedding planning process, our expectations of Jim were high. He knocked it out of the park in every way! Jim Canole captured the special moments of our wedding ceremony. We had a small wedding in a lovely city park. My now husband and I invited 28 close friends and family to celebrate with us. Jim was easily accessible previous to the wedding. He was straight forward and needed little direction to catch our vision for the morning. During the ceremony he didn't imped the process with his presence. The wedding pics and video arrived in a timely manner. The wedding attendants report watching the video over and over again and didn't want it to stop.

Jim was absolutely amazing. Our day was not only captured in the perfectly--he went way above and beyond. With everything from guiding us through the photo process and flexibility in meetings leading up to the wedding to giving us exactly what we needed day of (sometimes space, sometimes direction--whatever was needed in the moment!) and even giving my cousin's son a tutorial on his on photography, helping him frame the shot, giving him a critique, telling him what he did great and how he could get better, and then proffering his business card to offer future guidance after the event (out of my eyesight, I heard about it later from family). He knows how to make everyone comfortable. The shots we have look like they could be in a magazine--not just the traditional photos, but the moments that we really want to remember. You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't hire Jim. Seriously.

Unbelievable Work! Jim's quality of work remains the same year after year! This is the second time that we have hired Jim to document our child's wedding and the results are just as spectacular as the first. He is skilled at getting all the great shots while remaining unobtrusive .

I have never before wrote a review, good or bad. I think I felt thats just telling people was enough. For Jim, I felt very differently. I was looking to hire a photographer for my daughter's wedding for September 2015 and interviewed three. All local, similar in work style and price. But I chose Jim because of his work and essence. Best choice for sure. Jim took some amazing pictures that moved us to tears. He captured the story and the mood of the day exactly as it was felt and he did all that without you feeling him around you or in your face. He captured tears, laughter, the celebration and the love of that day. Jim has such a quiet and gentle but yet a very professional way of doing his work. I have to say paying for a service and getting great pictures may not be as hard to find but getting a person who's very pleasant and easy to work with, without any effort? Jim is the one!!! True professional, amazing work plus a stellar individual. He's the entire package for a photographer. We have another daughter and we will use him again. Also, what I thought was out of the ordinary is that several guests at our wedding made kind comments of how great and how pleasant our photographer was. That says it all.

Choosing Jim as our wedding photographer was one of the best decisions we made throughout the wedding planning process. His love of his work showed through as he would show us some of the photos he took right after taking them. He has amazing energy and covered a lot of ground that day. He had a list of our requested photos to make sure he got everything we wanted and was flexible when we decided not to do certain shots that day. We couldn't be happier with our pictures! Jim has a gift for catching people's expressions and emotions so the photos reflect all the feelings of our wedding day. He made a beautiful slide show, posted photos on his Facebook page and wrote some lovely blogs about our day on his website. We now have the slideshow and DVDs of 1,000 pictures to use as we like. I first met Jim five years ago when he photographed my brother's wedding. After working with him that day and seeing the photos, I knew I wanted him to shoot my wedding some day. Jim photographed my Boston wedding on 8/7/15 and I cannot say enough great things! So many couples have their pictures taken in the public garden and I truly feel mine are like no other - they're gorgeous, unique, and captivating. Candid shots are his specialty and they do not disappoint! I have so many great photos of little moments that would have gone forgotten if it weren't for Jim. Jim photographed our wedding on August 1st, 2015, and we were blown away with the photos. To say we are happy with them would be an understatement. Jim is creative, unique, and manages to somehow be everywhere at once! He captured so many moments during our wedding, you would think there was more than one of him. His creativity took our photos to the next level, and our guests couldn’t stop complimenting how wonderful he was throughout the night. Photos that anchor the memory! As the father of the bride, I've not much of a role ….other than pay the bills. So I do start to think… perhaps the photographer can be cut from the budget? After all there will be all those iPhones there and with upwards of 2000 images it should work. Not! Jim was worth every penny! He knows where to be without being in the way. He photographed from prep time to last dance and I never really noticed him. But when I saw the shots, they were perfect. The little kids, the grand parents, the expressions, the dancers, the tears, the joys, the laughs…all of it. Jim Canole was the photographer for our daughter's wedding in June. He is a total professional and was hardly visible yet his pictures are amazing. Jim was an amazing photographer and I loved all the pictures he took. From getting ready, to the ceremony, to the reception, he really captured the story of the night with his photos. He talks to you before the event to find out what it is you want and any special pictures, items or events you would like photographed. Being the bride, the day completely flys by, but Jim keeps you on track and on schedule and at the same time you barely even notice he is there. I especially love all the candid photos he took and he even captured some details I never even had the chance to see! From start to finish, Jim exceeded all of our expectations for our Wedding photographs. He was so fun to work with, and put us entirely at ease for both our engagement and our wedding photos! As a result, all of our pictures are amazing! He partnered with us to create a great, "day of plan," but was quick to grab us when a great photo opportunity popped up (and he was happy to go along with what we wanted in-the-moment too). After reviewing the online portfolio of several photographers - we narrowed our selection to just a few photographers. Ultimately, we picked Jim Canole because of his uncanny ability to shoot candid photos and capture moments and memories. If you want formal pictures - Jim can do an excellent job of that. We wanted our photos to capture spur of the moment memories. He exceeded our expectations and we highly recommend him for all photography needs.

Jim Canole was our photographer for our October 2014 wedding. He was amazing! Leading up to our big day, we met with Jim several times to go over our schedule and identify any particular moments we wanted captured--he put us at ease with his expertise. During the big day, he was amazing, capturing all of the special candids and traditional formal photos in a professional manner. He was so helpful in directing our bridal party and my husband and I through various poses--additionally, Jim would make sure that we captured all of the group photos we asked for during the reception. He was phenomenal in that he took breathtaking photos capturing our big day, while at the same time doing it in a manner where we barely noticed him! Several guests and bridal party members commented on how beautiful the pictures were and how well he was able to orchestrate the group pictures (one of which included over 30 people!). My husband and I hired Jim for our wedding at the Peabody Essex Museum on September 20 and we can't say enough good things about him! Right away we knew we had chosen the right photographer for us. He was quick to respond to our emails and went over every little detail of the wedding day during our meetings. Our wedding day was just fantastic. From the minute he arrived at my parents' house to the end of the night, Jim was continuously shooting. So many of our guests commented on his professionalism and how easy he was to work with. As soon as we saw the pictures we knew we couldn't have picked anyone better. He captured every moment of the day. Jim's photographs of our wedding are INCREDIBLE. He managed to capture so many amazing moments while effortlessly slipping into the background. Even the posed photos don't seem staged -- he made everyone feel so comfortable and it shows. The candid photos are rich with energy and really capture the mood of the whole wedding. The composition of the photos is flawless, the colors pop beautifully, and honestly everyone looks like a movie star. We could not be happier. He's such a talented photographer, easy to work with, and incredibly accommodating. If you're in the Boston area, choose him as your wedding photographer -- you won't be disappointed.

Jim's photos are beyond beautiful and far superior to those of other photographers. He has won best of the knot for over 5 years now, which is not surprising (you can see all the trophies when you go to his house for a consultation). He was professional and very thorough. He worked with me to negotiate some complicated family photo arrangements too. Prices are very reasonable. You also can't even tell he is at the wedding, he really blends right in, but is somehow always around! I recommend him 100%, and look forward to using him for other things in the future.

Jim did a great job, and my husband and I loved all the photos. We were most impressed with his attention to detail. Jim shot not only our wedding, but drove down to Newport the day before the wedding to shoot our rehearsal dinner as well. The day of the wedding, our plan was for Jim to stay until an hour before the reception ended. At that point he was going to check in with us, and if we decided we wanted him around for another hour, we'd just let him know then. Well, he stayed anyways because he said our recpetion had a "great energy." Between our engagement shoot, rehearsal, and wedding, Jim definitely logged a bunch of extra hours. After the wedding, we received discs of all the photos for us to use/print as we wish. And I can't wait to make our photo album as well =)

We had Jim as a photographer at our backyard wedding in August. We now have some great reminders of some special moments from that day. He was easy to work with and it's great that he gave us all of the photos on a cd shortly after the wedding.
