Whether your wedding is faith-based, spiritual, or non-religious, he will help you design a dream Wedding celebration that reflects your personality and values! Pastor Rich is a bilingual wedding Officiant who serves the entire Midwest region, including Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and beyond. He is committed to serving all couples and families without discrimination.
Pastor Rich is one of the original Officiants on The Knot and Weddingwire. His first wedding was 40 years ago, so God has given him a wonderful wealth of experience. He was appointed as a Liturgy and Worship Consultant in the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. He also led assemblies and in-services in Catholic and public schools. He received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and later obtained his Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Divinity School.
Services Offered
Pastor Rich offers planning, rehearsals, and ceremonies, as well as email support during the entire planning process. As an Elder (like a tenured Priest), he is fully licensed and will create custom ceremony elements for each couple. He is thankful for a wide variety of friendships, including persons who are religious, non-religious, multi-cultural, LGBTQI, multi-generational, and various abilities, while collaborating on weddings with Rabbis, Pastors, Muslims, and Hindu Priests along the way. Pastor Rich believes in marriage equality and has a non-discrimination policy on all levels.

If you don't need a Planning Meeting or rehearsal, that's absolutely fine. I will give you the same attention to detail and care, no matter which services you request.

Pastor Rich is an amazing wedding officiant: professional, kind, tremendously curious, companionate and funny. He was a calming presence that helped us navigate the stress of the D-Day. We were really touched when we met with him, so he could learn about our love story and what motivated us to take the leap. This love story was so beautifully recounted to the audience during our wedding ceremony that we both cried. Chose Pastor Rich if you want a heartfelt homage to your love!
Pastor Rich officiated our wedding in August 2024. We had a great experience with him from start to finish. He was so helpful with our rehearsal and helped make us comfortable for the big day. He took the time to get to know us and personalize our ceremony fittingly and even had great recommendations to make the ceremony unique! We had many compliments from our guests and would highly recommend him!
Honestly, Pastor Rich was a huge part of why our wedding felt so perfect. He makes each ceremony so uniquely personal and memorable. We had guests asking if he was one of our childhood pastors that we flew in from out of state because of how deeply he seemed to know us and care. We also had an extremely diverse guest list with many different religions and cultures and he made sure to be respectful and honor all of our guests in a way that felt like it not only encompassed what we wanted to portray, but warmly encouraged others to feel included. It was everything I could have wanted from one of the sweetest and kindest people you could ever hope to meet.

Pastor Rich officiated our wedding in September, 2024. He gave a wonderful, genuine speech that highlighted my spouse and I as individuals and how we fit together beautifully as a couple. I couldn't reccomend him more. Our guests were raving about the ceremony all evening.
Pastor Rich was such a pleasure to work with! It was important to us to have someone who is bilingual marry us and I was skeptical at first- but Pastor Rich really does speak Spanish! He was able to incorporate special elements to our ceremony. He was also very easy to communicate with although we didn’t meet in person until the day of our wedding.
My wedding was spectacular thanks to Pastor Rich. I speak Spanish and my husband speaks English, so the Pastor made sure that both families felt comfortable having a bilingual wedding. He personalized the wedding according to our lives. I am very happy and would recommend him a thousand times more.

Pastor Rich was wonderful to work with and extremely professional. One of the bigger deciding factors for choosing an officiant was finding someone that could help guide us along the process. We knew we wanted to write some parts of the ceremony, but we didn't have a good understanding of the structure, what's appropriate when, etc. Our guests told us after the ceremony they assumed Pastor Rich was someone that had known us for years. We loved how he went through our story and noted little things he noticed about us as a couple. He was also just genuinely fun to be with on the big day.

We had two short meetings with pastor Rich, and everyone at our reception assumed he knew us for a long time! He's incredibly genuine and it honestly did feel like he knew us really well after our meetings. Really grateful he was a part of our day! Total pro.
My husband and I first reached out to Pastor Rich through the Knot and after our first encounter via video chat we knew we made the right choice. He made every encounter feel natural and fluid. He was friendly and open with our family and friends and we couldn’t have asked for a better officiant to marry us. After an extensive officiant search, we decided to move forward with Pastor Rich and we are SO happy that we did.
My husband and I are not very religious but did grow up in the church so we wanted more of a spiritual ceremony. As an ordained minister of the Methodist Church, Pastor Rich knew all the traditional aspects of a Christian wedding and invited us to leverage as much or as little of them as possible.
The other important aspect that he brought to the table was that he was able to do the ceremony in English and Spanish. While most of our guests were bilingual, we wanted to make sure the most important parts of the wedding (vows and ring exchange) were in Spanish and he was able to not only make it happen but he gave my Spanish-speaking grandma a shout out from the front and thanked her for being there. Loved it.
I must admit that not having a full script from him did make me a tad nervous but Pastor Rich DELIVERED on the day of the ceremony. All the prep he took us through--the questionnaire, the calls--led to him sharing a funny, thoughtful, and hopeful message. Our guests went out of the way to say that he did a great job and they could not believe how much he knew about us and our story.
Overall, Pastor Rich is there for YOU. He is super flexible, willing to give ideas, calm your nerves and make sure that your day is what you want it to be. His soothing voice and humble presence led us through the most important part of the day and set the tone for what was and is to come. Highly recommend him!

Pastor Rich was the BEST officiant for our wedding! Our ceremony needed to be in both Spanish and English as our two families that spoke different languages and he went above and beyond helping us put together a bilingual ceremony. Not only did he help us incorporate Mexican traditions into the ceremony but all our guests felt included as he took the time to explain everything going on in Spanish and English. He even went above and beyond by giving us advice he’s learned over time with his own marriage, making everything more personal. I cannot recommend Pastor Rich enough!

He met us for a virtual meeting to get to know our love story and asked us how he should structure the ceremony. We then met in person for our rehearsal dinner. Pastor Rich was friendly and endearing while getting to know our friends and family. The rehearsal was exceptionally well run. Everyone felt comfortable and confident in their roles for the wedding the next day, even my French grandpa who doesn't speak a word of English.
The ceremony itself could not have been better! Pastor Rich interwove our story with sage advice, drawing from experience on his own marriage. To include my wife's Colombian family watching virtually, he translated key moments of the ceremony into Spanish. They have told me that they understood every word and that they appreciated the gesture.

Pastor Rich was an amazing man to work with in our Hindu/Christian fusion wedding. He was so open to explaining the traditional Indian parts of the wedding, from what the candles symbolized, to the actual wording, and everything in between. Every Indian guest complimented us on finding a pastor who explained it in English.
For the Christian side it was flawless. Fun and amazing. Again, fantastic to work with and we recommend getting his complete package. The Rehearsal was easy and he was on time and courteous to all of our guests.

I honestly was so impressed with how personal he made our ceremony as we had only communicated a few times beforehand (we chose our amount and type of communication). It seemed like he had known us for years. He added a personal story of his wife/marriage and how little acts of kindness can go so far. He is a very calm, professional and kind-hearted person that made everything about the ceremony such a wonderful start to our married life together!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Pastor Rich. He brought the whole room including myself to tears during our wedding ceremony. From the beginning, he ensured our ceremony would be personal, deeply meaningful and filled with the praise and love of The Father. We recieved countless compliments about our lovely pastor. it was amazing wedding. Pastor Rich is great. We cannot ask for more. When i contacted him first time, he listened to me. Agreed to meet us before wedding for counseling, That was very helpful. We both are Hindu and was very nervous about ceremony and Pastor Rich suggested us so many things. He show flexibility and suggested some great ideas to include our culture in wedding. He suggest tea ceremony because tea is very important to us. During ceremony he told story about us which was so beautiful. He made us feel so special and he made our wedding so beautiful with such kind words. he made it so easy for both of us. he answer all our questions before and even day of our wedding he meet everyone personally after ceremony which was very special. we really feel connected to him which was important to us. Pastor Rich was amazing!! He was there to help every step of the way and even though the day started kinda stressful he definitely helped ease the stress away. My husband and I felt great as he spoke of our love story in front of all the people we loved!! He definitely gave us everything that we were looking for in an officiant!! Our church at the time only did Friday weddings (which is super tacky IMO), and almost all other churches would not allow us to be married with them if we were not attending or members. As such, Pastor Rich was a godsend. Real nice guy, really punctual, invests time, good speaker, and if this is important to you, loves Jesus. Highly recommended, especially if you are Protestant Christian and your church can't deliver the goods.
Pastor Rich was phenomenal! He is genuine and kind. I appreciate how he took the time to get to know us. My husband and I met at a Tavern in Nashville, and Pastor Rich shared that story so beautifully. I'm not joking when I say he absolutely nailed it. We laughed and cried, and he even had all the wedding guests shout "we do!" - it was so awesome. Most importantly, our families were so impressed by him, that they could have sworn he knew us forever. We have received so many compliments that I've truly lost count. Pastor Rich was the perfect officiant for our wedding. He stuck with us through three date changes and took the time to get to know us. We consider Pastor Rich a great friend for his amazing help throughout the process! We had numerous guest comment on how great and unique the message was. He also did part of ours in Spanish to accommodate part of the family’s native language. Out of all our “vendors” Pastor Rich was the best!

We got married in Geneva in Oct. 2021. I’ve had other friends and family use a personable relative to serve as officiant in their wedding with mixed results. Pastor Rich has done hundreds (maybe thousands!) of weddings so we figured this was one thing that we wouldn’t have to stress about. Even with COVID, the whole process was smooth. We had two or three Zoom calls to go over the details and only met Pastor Rich in person for the first time at the rehearsal. Through our zoom calls, Pastor Rich will get to know more about you and your partner, how you met, your family situation, what kind of ceremony you want (religious or not so much) and kind of a typical flow for a ceremony. I think really through those calls (plus some texts and emails), Pastor Rich can come up with a more personal delivery during your ceremony that you (and your friends and family) will likely appreciate. During the reception, I had probably 6-7 people complement our officiant and ask how long we knew Pastor Rich just to give you an idea on how well he can personalize things for you. Overall, Pastor Rich is a friendly, kind man who enjoys what he does and is good at it. Give him a shot.

We spent months looking for a bilingual officiant for our May 2021 wedding, and I know we couldn't have made a better choice than choosing Pastor Rich! He was attentive, timely, flexible (COVID wedding) and couldn't have been kinder and more helpful throughout our planning process and actual wedding day. Pastor Rich was terrific and exactly what we (and now you) were looking for. Very genuine person who will take the time to understand and get to know you and your "couple story." He helps guide you through every decision for the ceremony, while being extremely respectful of how you want to individualize to religion or culture.

He was professional and incredibly helpful from the start. He traveled over an hour outside Chicago to officiate our wedding. We received many compliments on our ceremony that Pastor Rich created a welcoming atmosphere where our guests felt like active participants. They appreciated the way that Pastor Rich made the ceremony feel intimate and familiar. We set up a webcam to livestream the wedding for our relatives, and Pastor Rich helped us make it all happen. (My one suggestion for future brides and grooms would be to get his complete package, which includes a rehearsal. We flubbed a few of our lines during the ceremony and would have appreciated the extra practice!)
