Out of all the wedding planning advice I had gotten, finding a good photographer and DJ were probably the most common bits of advice, and for good reason. But after our wedding and... experience, a good DJ is just fine. What you really want is a MAGICAL DJ, and that’s exactly what Richard is.
Through the planning stage, Richard was great and communicative. There were details he asked about that we were not sure how they were relevant, but as it turns out he really knows what he’s doing and they absolutely were crucial to the event. He was also fantastic to work with in getting our must play songs, do not play songs, and general vibe playlists to
The day of the wedding, he was prompt, ready to go, and because of the pre-planning everything went smooth as warm butter over a hot biscuit. For the ceremony, the music played, the microphones all worked, no feedback, no wind noise even though it was quite windy, and I had zero idea that there was somebody out there making sure the sound was perfect, but it absolutely was.
During the cocktail hour, he put together a great playlist that let our guests mingle with just enough background noise to keep things lively but also at a volume where nobody had to shout over the music.
At the reception itself, he was magnificent being the MC of the event, taking control of the crowd when it was time for toasts, etc. but never once made himself the center of the show as I have seen in the past. Again, the sound was on point, clear, crisp, and at the perfect volume. For our first dance, as well as the father/daughter and mother/son dances, he was able to splice together those songs so everything was exactly what we wanted.
At this point everything that Richard did was ‘good’ but we now move into the MAGICAL part of what made our night special:
With Richard taking control of the music for the dancing portion of the reception, it was like we had a top notch club DJ at the helm, but guided by our own specific and highly varied musical tastes. The difference between this and just going through a playlist was that he was feeling out the vibe of the crowd, seamlessly blending from song to song as soon as it felt like that particular song was danced out. There were a couple times when it felt like the energy started to dip, and he was able to quickly restore it, and when everybody was really feeling it (As it turns out 2000s boy bands) he stuck with that for a couple songs, and ended just before it started to lose it’s novelty.
Our friends and family do enjoy dancing and with a phone plugged into a speaker running through a playlist, there would have been a decent amount of dancing, but with Richard, it was packed for the entire night. After the last song, you have to trust me on this, the song faded out, and a group of tired and sweaty millennials turn and applauded Richard. Yes, “everybody clapped.” I’ve never seen that, but it was deserved and then some.
Since the wedding a very large number of our guests have come up to me and my wife to mention how much fun they had and specifically calling out the DJ that was either one of or the single best DJ they have seen at a wedding.
Richard is truly a magical DJ. If he is not booked, lock him down this second. If he is currently booked, find a date that he’s open and re-schedule your wedding. I’m not kidding. He’s that good. Sorry, I used the wrong word right there.
He’s that magical.
