We loved having our wedding at Steppingstone Farm Museum! It's an absolutely beautiful, historic venue with lots of rustic charm and gorgeous scenery. The staff were kind and great to work with. Especially during these tough times and postponements, I felt they did a great job at communicating and accommodating us. It's important to keep in mind that with the rustic charm comes challenges as well - it was very hot on our wedding day with little relief from the heat in the barn or any other buildings. Also, it's important to mention the venue is pretty hands-off when it comes to planning and on the day-of which really just depends on what you're looking for. It required me to have a day-of coordinator (which was amazingly helpful albeit an extra cost), but also gave us complete freedom on making the day exactly how we wanted it (timing, planning, choice of vendors, etc.). All in all, it was a PERFECT day and I couldn't have been more happy!!
Beautiful, rustic, versatile wedding venue. I loved that it was a blank slate that gave us a lot of freedom in hand-picking our vendors, as well as allowing us to do much of it ourselves (which is what I wanted)!
We had our ceremony in their courtyard with a brick pathway coming off of an old farmhouse, and a gorgeous tree-lined backdrop behind us. Our cocktail hour was outside of the barn, where we placed cocktail tables, Edison bulbs, yard games, and a mobile bar that we built.
Our reception was inside the barn. I was pretty picky and found some of the other barn venues to be a little too "country", but Steppingstone's barn is the perfect blend of rustic and elegant.
They also have a pavilion if you're looking for a fully outdoor wedding that's also highly customizable.
Note that this is a very DIY wedding venue, and while their staff is available to answer your questions and they provide you with a bridal guide with their rules, etc., they are pretty hands-off (unless you reach out to them) up until the pre-meeting which is only 2 weeks before your wedding. I loved the freedom this venue allowed, and I loved all of the planning, searching, and DIY-ing, but if you are more strapped for time and considering this venue then you would probably be best-suited hiring a wedding planner.
We expected much better for the price we paid.
Let me start by saying the grounds are beautiful and there are plenty of places to do you pictures. I grew up hiking around the park and grounds.
Stepping stone does offer a golf cart to transport wedding guests around the venue which was nice.
From the time we booked our venue we had delt with 3 different event coordinators from the venue. This made contacting them difficult. They are only in the office 4 days a week and only untill 2pm. As a location trying to operate as a wedding venue there needs to be a full time coorodinator.
Ground maintenance:
1 month prior to our wedding we received an email stating that we could no longer use the stage for our ceremony as it has been deemed unsafe. This was at the start of wedding season. There were couples in much worse situations than us. The damage to the stage was not done overnight. The inspections of their buildings and structures should be done in the off season to insure safe and garunteed usage. Two weeks prior to the wedding they informed us that the chimney had fallen off of their blacksmith building.
Despite the issue with the stage they did try to work with us to be accommodating.
The next day when we came back to clean up, the gates were locked. It wasn't untill 11am that were managed to let ourselves in. Per the contract were were supposed to be cleaned up by noon. No one had ever showed up to let us in even after we were finished and out of the venue. Again, with not having a full time coordinator, we had no way of contacting anyone.
We loved that we could rent out the entire grounds. We were married on the stage, had dinner under the pavilion, and dancing/dessert in the carriage barn.
The venue is beautiful and we couldn't have imagined getting married anywhere else.
Angela was a joy to work with during the planning process. We did run into some issues with the venue staff the day of the wedding but I would still highly recommend the location.
FYI- You may want to consider supplying additional outdoor lighting. The walkway was dark after the sun went down.
Our wedding at Steppingstone Museum was absolutely amazing! The staff was very friendly, quick and easy to communicate with, and super helpful. Our wedding was early June 2015. The venue is stunning, modestly priced, and very remote. Perfect for 50 or 250! We held both ceremony and reception on-site and we could not be more pleased with the outcome!
Steppingstone Museum is a hidden gem of a location. It includes acres of open grassy areas and historic buildings, including a farmhouse and a unfrilly barn. Our ceremony took place in a field, using the park's wooden benches as our pews and a rustic stage as our altar area. The view is lovely, including a glimpse of the Susquehanna River. Our reception was in the Carriage Barn, which houses antique carriages and sleighs. The barn is fairly basic, but with some creativity and hard work, it can be transformed into a lovely indoor area. The downside is that the barn has no electrical power running to it, so generators are a must. The staff is helpful, but their primary aim is to maintain the integrity of the historic site, not to plan a wedding. Therefore, the bride and groom must be willing to absorb the lion's share of the planning, coordinating, cleaning, etc., to make it exactly what they want.
