We’re Mike and Erin, TALL + small, respectively. We’re based in Harrisonburg, VA but are packed and ready to travel (especially to the Bloomington, IN).
It's your wedding. You might be stressed. You might not love the idea of getting your picture taken. You might be intimidated by all of these websites and friends and family telling you what you should do. Don't fret. It's your day. You can do it your own way. We're here to help make it fun, efficient, and appropriate for you!
We shoot in a few modes. We take lots of documentary photographs that are timeless and artistic with a focus on joy and your unique personalities as well as creating hip portraits to help make you even cooler than you already are!
We've photographed hundreds of weddings and bring a lot of experience, calm, fun, and efficiency to the process. That said, we continue to be impressed by the stories, ideas, and lives of the people for whom we work and make sure each wedding experience is unique, personal, and appropriate.

nt. They sent out a very organized form that expedites the photos allowing you to maximize your time on wedding day, and it also is an extremely helpful planning tool. I did not have a wedding planner, but Tall + Small Photography helped immensely with the wedding planning process because of their thoroughness, which made my big day possible. Second, they arrived early to our venue and brought such good energy to our wedding day! They remained calm and composed, while creating such a fun atmosphere! My family and friends all absolutely loved working with them, and said it was one of the highlights of the wedding. Third, THE PICTURES! I was blown away with the turnaround time and the quality of the pictures. They have such a creative eye to make the most of your venue and utilize the time of day to capture the most special moments. Having two photographers working together to get different angles really makes the most of your wedding photos. They also do an amazing job of perfectly representing a moment in time (such as guests dancing at the reception, family member's reactions, etc). All of the photos I got back are top notch, making it impossible to narrow down for an instagram post :) I would recommend them to anyone. Mike was on the ball at all times, getting tons of great shots throughout the entire day. There were a few times where I asked if he could take some specific photos only to be told he had already done it! The guy really knows what he's doing. We even had many of our guests comment to us afterward that our photographer was doing a great job.
Our photos were in our hands way faster than we expected, and they all look great. There are so many we love that we're having a hard time picking which ones to print and frame.

Both are professional and extremely respectful of your wishes. They were easily able to get all of our family portraits done within 30 minutes so that the rest of the time for photos were devoted to us, the bride and groom. It is important to fill out their document however so that these photos can be done seamlessly. Also, giving some idea of your wants and the memories you want photographed is also important.
Erin and Mike also do provide some direction for the photo shoot so you can get all the best photos. They also stayed after the reception to take nighttime photos. We were impressed by the knowledge they had for all lighting, weather, and different people situations and loved their enthusiasm for making our day great.

There were so many times we didn't know the best location or the best way to approach something, and Mike was always there to help. He offered great advice and guided us throughout the day, making sure to capture all our important bridal/family portraits, as well as amazing candid shots of special moments throughout the evening. Before and during our event, he made sure to listen to what was important to us and communicated every step of the way.

ng only 50 days before the event, Mike was very understanding and worked quickly to get us his availability so we could replan the big day. Over our two years of waiting, Mike was communicative and extremely professional, so we were not surprised last Saturday when we met in person to learn how kind and thoughtful he was as well.
During our event, Mike was EVERYWHERE. After the ceremony, he moved us quickly through group photos so we could actually enjoy the cocktail hour. He snagged us for a few shots throughout the night which turned out beautifully. He was also generous with his time and worked to grab photos for our family and guests, including separate head shots for all the groomsmen. If you’re in the Harrisonburg/Lexington/Charlottesville or Indiana area, I could not recommend him enough!

In the months/weeks leading up to our reception, Mike was very communicative and helped us nail down our photo list and timing for formal portraits. He and Erin were able to get through about 40 combinations of people in about as many minutes—the people-wrangling was very impressive! Mike and Erin also made sure to get all of the photos we wanted both before the party started and shortly after sunset, and also had a great eye for photo-worthy moments throughout the reception. We opted for the photobooth add-on, which I would highly recommend to anyone planning an event. It was a great way to get some extra (and unique) photos of people being silly—including the photographers themselves!

Not only were our pictures simply magical, Mike & Erin were amazing to work with throughout the planning process & the day of. We had a huge wedding party (20+!!!) and somehow they managed to make our wedding pictures feel effortless. We barely even noticed they were there half of the time, but the pictures are proof they were there to capture every moment! We even had guests comment how impressed they were with how on top of it our photographers were at the reception. It also deserves to be mentioned that the turnaround time to get our pictures was incredibly quick (2 weeks after our wedding, that's almost unheard of) + we got a ton of pictures (seriously, SO MANY pictures), and the quality is still exceptional! Mike was very flexible in scheduling and extremely responsive. He came to our home where we did about 45 minutes of photos with our dogs. Our dogs are not the best behaved little ones, but he did a phenomenal job capturing us and them. I know we will have these "family photos" for a lifetime.
We spent the last hour taking photos all over campus. As an MBA student, my IU experience pretty much took place in 2 buildings. I know the big landmarks, but Mike knows the campus extremely well and found great spots for photos. We have some that a very traditional and others that are more modern and artistic.

first shot to the last. He had amazing ideas and knew just where to go to get great photos. However, he was also open to our suggestions and was willing to go wherever we wanted as well. For the wedding, we had both Mike and Erin for the whole day. They showed up right on time and blended into the background, yet got every shot we wanted! Our guests loved them both and we got so many compliments on how amazing they were the whole day. And then we got our photos… absolutely breathtaking. ith some of our crazy needs (like making them drive out of their way to come shoot our engagement photos) and helped us figure out exactly what we needed on the day of our wedding. We got our pictures back 2 1/2 weeks after the wedding and I haven't been able to stop looking at them - they captured not only the significant moments, but the little ones as well. They were so discreet on the wedding day that there are pictures we didn't even remember seeing them be around to take! They are so easy to talk to and respond to emails very quickly. They have plenty of advice if you have any questions and are willing to what it takes to make whatever you want, happen. I still am amazed with everything when I look at their pictures and am so thankful we chose photographers who captured everything so clearly. Their photos are lifelike and bright, without looking one bit overdone or overly retouched. They are open to doing the standard posed shots but they also like to explore with candid shots, experimental lighting, they also took a picture so it looks like we are floating over the circle in Indianapolis. They were amazing. They contacted us immediately after our initial inquiry, they sent us a very comprehensive survey to find out what kind of people we were, what we were looking for and specifics about venue and style. They were so sweet, very helpful (Tall actually helped the groom set up some decorations before the ceremony), they don't get in the way and sometimes you forget they are even there. They also have an amzing photobooth that was the hit of the wedding. The amount of great photos we got from that alone made it worth the $400 extra. Tall + Small are very professional, very talented and will capture your wedding in ways that you will be so happy with for years to come.
