The Lightning Tree Barn in Circleville, OH, is an authentic 1934 cattle barn and unique wedding venue, all dressed up in sheers and white lights. It sits on 800 stunning acres of farm land with a great view, making it ideal as the picture-perfect backdrop to say "I do" and celebrate your love.
The barn was home to cattle for many years, and when that operation closed down, it became a place to store things and for the kids to play in. Climbing up the old ladders and swinging from ropes into piles of tons of hay that were left in the hay mow were favorite pastimes. There are many stories and memories of sleepovers and parties in the old barn, and now you can add your own.
In 2006, my daughter got engaged and announced to us all that she was getting married in the barn. No one around here had ever heard of getting married in a barn at that time, so she was quite a visionary. Dad got busy and cleaned all of the hay out of the mow and then proceeded to wash every square inch of the old walls and beams that were black from years of cattle in the barn and a nearby coal train. I put up white sheers and white lights, and a cement floor was poured. The fancy stairwells to the upstairs were built about 2 weeks before her wedding in October of 2007. It was a big hit, and 200 people danced the night away.
That following January, my husband and I built our retirement house on the farm right next to the barn, and people started knocking at my door to see if they could book a wedding in the barn.
And so it began!
Not much has changed since then, but we added bathrooms once we started to get busy.
The barn holds up to 200 downstairs, where the reception is usually held, and a little over 200 upstairs, where the ceremony is most often held. There have been over 300 weddings that have overflowed into rented tents at the end of the barn. There is also an outdoor spot for those who want to be outside, overlooking the farm, for their ceremony. You get the entire day Friday to set up, all day Saturday, and half the day Sunday to finish tearing down.
There is a refrigerator, a freezer, and limited tables for your use. There are many Pinterest-type items that other brides have left that are available for your use, such as wooden cross sections and candles for the tables, arches, church pews for outside, bar glassware, and much more.
