The Twin Oaks venue is beautiful, the staff was nice, the food was decent, so why only 3 stars? Pamela, the wedding coordinator that came with the venue was okay.
In general, we f...ound Pamela difficult to work with, when we expected her to be accommodating, she was defensive. Pamela clearly has a lot of experience coordinating weddings at Twin Oaks Golf, she is direct, and perhaps it was just a bad match with our personalities.
To give some examples: We understood that Twin Oaks does not offer desserts in its packages and found a bakery for our desserts. However, we were getting logistics questions from the bakery about delivery timing and storage available, and so we asked Pamela to coordinate delivery with the bakery. Instead, she gave us a bare minimum of information like “we have a Pepsi-cooler”, we ended up wasting time being the interpreter for the bakery when this should be the responsibility of our coordinator.
Another example was the group tasting event, where Pamela specifically told us to give feedback on the food. However, when we mentioned that we preferred the chicken and risotto to be less dry, she jumped to defending the chefs with the excuse that there was a lot of people tasting different foods and that we couldn’t expect the food to be perfect at a tasting. Instead of appreciating the feedback or simply taking notes, she valued the chef's interest more than ours.
Some of our family members also reacted to Pamela’s behavior at the rehearsal. During rehearsal we were all in a good mood, greeting the wedding party and having our families there. Pamela was curt, impatient, and put a damper on our otherwise good mood. Even my jolly father-in-law who never has anything bad to say about anyone asked us if she was always like this.
As a bride, I understand that there are a lot of things that I needed to be doing at certain times during the wedding. Pamela made me feel rushed to the point where I was unable to enjoy moments because I was being whisked off to some other activity. To be specific, right after we cut our cake and sat down to enjoy our slice, Pamela rushed over and said it was time for the first dance.
If I could do it all again, would I have chosen to get married at Twin Oaks Golf? Yes, the venue gorgeous, and the views stunning, and all of our guests raved about the venue. Would I have liked to have known the coordinator better before deciding? Yes. Would I have hired my own day-of coordinator? Yes.
If I could do it all again, I still would have chosen to get married at Twin Oaks. The venue was gorgeous and the views stunning. However, I would have liked to have known the coordinator better beforehand. We did not meet Pamela until after we had signed the contracts, and had gotten along great with our first contact, Jill. Because of this, I would recommend hiring a different day-of coordinator.
