The summer wedding of Dave Henderson, 43, a special education teacher, and his bride Holly Roach, 27, a science teacher, was a celebration focused on family and love. Dave and Holly met while teaching at the same junior high school where the both still work. “It took him a while, but he worked up the courage to ask me to dinner,” Holly says. “We have been having fun and living life since.” After getting permission from her parents, Dave proposed to Holly at their favorite taco joint. The couple chose the beautiful Millcreek Inn in Salt Lake City as the venue for their ceremony and reception. “It just felt like the place we were meant to enjoy this day with our families,” says the bride. Instead of having a strict color palette and meticulous decorations, the bride and groom took a more laid-back approach to planning their special day. Almost everything at the wedding had a sentimental or emotional significance to them and their families, including a special gift and card table with 15 framed photographs of couples from both sides. “The element that best reflected us was the presence of meaningful things and people,” says the bride. “Every person that was there was special to us, and each item that was used had meaning as well.”

The bride donned a simple yet beautiful Justin Alexander dress with a Venetian lace overlay.

"My jewelry was simple pearl earrings from my mom, silver cuff bangles that I wear almost every day that have special meaning to me, and my grandmother's pearl bracelet given to my mother," Holly says.
The couple designed the bride's ring together with a local jewelry designer. "The diamond was my grandmother's, and so we created a vintage-inspired setting with engraving on the band to give it a unique touch," Holly says.
Holly carried a bouquet of spray daisies, billy balls and green filler. "I gave our florist creative discretion to come up with something classic, natural, happy, and loose," she says.
Dave and Holly tied the knot in a rustic outdoor ceremony that included personal hand-written vows.

Because the reception took place in the afternoon heat of summer, guests were served a light menu of roasted chicken, salmon, vegetables and salad.
The couple chose rustic centerpieces of floral arrangements set in low vases that were wrapped in burlap.

The reception music was provided by a group of young musicians that had attended the junior high where Dave and Holly teach. "They were wonderful and so much fun," she says.

Although they didn't have a cake to serve to guests, the bride's mother made the couple a gluten-free chocolate cake to cut. Friends of the bride and groom made eclairs and chocolate pot de cremes for dessert.
