A Traditional, Formal Winter Wedding at Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, Delaware

Grier Tumas (25 and an associate at McKinsey & Co.) and Jonathan Dienstag’s (32 and the director of concessions and event operations for the Boston Red Sox) wedding was an elegant, formal affair with a festive, wintry flair. Wanting to capture the glamour and sophistication of a state dinner, the couple hosted the entire affair at the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, Delaware, an opulent, early-20th-century hotel with striking Italian and French Renaissance architectural detailing, including handcrafted bas-reliefs of famous historical women, glittering crystal chandeliers and a variety of beautiful scenes created using the sgraffito technique. From Grier’s one-of-a-kind, gold-embellished Carolina Herrera gown to the couple’s customized interfaith ceremony and a menu boasting mouthwatering seasonal dishes, each element of the day captured the couple’s personalities, tastes and styles. Evantine Design was instrumental in bringing the couple’s elegant, wintry vision to life with their ornate arrangements of rich red and white flowers and tablescapes featuring luxe silver accents and Versace chargers. The Jack Faulkner Orchestra rocked the house, capping off the celebration with a rousing rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” a staple at Fenway Park in Boston, where Jonathan works. But the party didn’t stop there. Grier and Jonathan kept the festivities going into the wee hours in the Hotel du Pont’s Christina Room, where local favorites like 16 Mile Old Court Ale and mini cheesesteaks were served as late-night snacks.
