Early morning classes are notoriously overlooked by college students in favor of sleeping late. And when one does have the unfortunate luck of being placed in an early class, it’s not exactly conducive to socializing. But when Farrah found herself in an 8:30 a.m. intensive introductory French course her freshman year at Yale, she was incredibly excited to be there. One of her classmates, on the other hand -- Zach, a sophomore -- was quiet, surly, and mostly asleep. Despite all evidence to the contrary, they found each other fascinating. After Zach returned to school from a year off and a three-month world tour with his a cappella group, the Whiffenpoofs, they finally made time for a date over tomato-basil pizza and discovered how much they had in common. Three years later, the couple was living in Los Angeles, when Zach whisked Farrah away to a bed and breakfast at Big Bear Lake. After sharing what else but a tomato-basil pizza and champagne, he led her out to the balcony and proposed under the stars.
