A Hill Country Wedding With Personal DIY Touches at La Cantera Resort and Spa in San Antonio, Texas
For their Hill Country wedding, Brittany and Carla kept things personal. They put a boozy spin on the unity ceremony, each taking a shot and pouring a bottle of Maker’s Mark into a custom whiskey barrel, then started the party with a surprise drag queen performance. Their families played a part too—Carla’s mom folded 1,000 paper cranes to hang from chandeliers in the ballroom, while her stepfather built pew markers and wood wine trays. Carla rounded out the night by rapping “Gangster’s Paradise,” by Coolio, complete with a mic drop.
Brittany wore a lace trumpet gown, and Carla sported a three-piece blue suit. Vessels filled with hydrangeas, calla lilies, tulips, dahlias and silver dollar eucalyptus framed the dramatic stone ceremony site. Brittany and Carla swayed to “I Say a Little Prayer” by Aretha Franklin. The couple’s drag queen entertainer performed songs by Selena, Kesha and Lady Gaga.
Dahlias and ranunculus decorated the red velvet cake. Carla’s stepfather crafted the stadium for her Carolina Panthers cake. It had a Carla figurine, star quarterback Cam Newton and a mini Jumbotron showing the team’s greatest plays.
