What should I wear?
PLEASE no jeans or cargo shorts. We are aiming for as formal as possible without people having to go out and buy fancy clothes. Dress pants, button up shirts and an optional tie or dresses, please! Additionally, we ask that you do not wear the color terracotta or burgundy as these colors will be reserved for the wedding party.
Should I buy a gift?
We kindly ask for no boxed gifts for our wedding. While no gifts are necessary, if you would like to make a small contribution to our honeymoon fund we would greatly appreciate it! Link is on the website and a QR code will be included on the invitations.
What’s the theme?
Think cottage in the woods. Lots of flowers and foliage. Soft aesthetic, almost fairy like.
Are kiddos welcome?
Of course! In fact please communicate with us if your little one gets overstimulated and needs a break from the chaos! We can coordinate anything to make this night special for us and your little one as well.
What’s on the menu?
Tentatively, we’re thinking serve yourself, basic backyard bbq. Smoked meats, pulled pork/chicken. Basic potluck sides such as Mac and cheese, Swedish meatballs, potato salad, roasted vegetables and so on. Please feel free to communicate any dietary restrictions if necessary. We will be having a cocktail hour prior to the start of the actual reception where hors d’oeuvres such as finger sandwiches and charcuterie will be available.
Open or closed bar?
Tentatively, we plan on bulk canned/bottled beers and wines. Help yourself but please do so in moderation! I also will be making a couple of signature cocktails that will be limited. Once they are out, they’re out! We may also have a keg or two available.
Ceremony vs. Reception
As we plan on having a small, more intimate ceremony, there will be people who are invited to both the ceremony and the reception, as well as folks who are invited seperately for the reception/cocktail hour. This will be reflected on the invitation you will receive. We hope that the guests understand that this is not a personal decision, more so just wanting to make our ceremony as special as possible.
Parking?
There will be designated parking on the property. Should all guests park in an orderly fashion, there will be more than enough room for everyone.
Footwear?
It is highly recommended that everyone wear comfortable footwear that will work in various settings. The ceremony will take place on grassy/dirt terrain. The reception will be indoors. We will do our best to accommodate any guests who might need assistance ambulating around the venue.
Photography/cellphone policy?
We are okay with photography so long as it is not disruptive of the day’s events. Please refrain from cellphone usage during the ceremony unless snapping a couple pictures for the bride and groom. All we ask is that any pictures wait to be posted on social media until the newlyweds make their own post in celebration of the special day or specific permission is granted.
Weather/inclement weather?
Typically the weather in early October in northern Michigan is mild. However we ask that guests prepare for cold weather by bringing jackets/blankets. There will be a select number of blankets available on a first come first serve basis.
Should inclement weather arise, we are prepared to pivot and move the ceremony indoors. However this will take some patience and understanding from the guests as we do so.
