Mike and Allysa met at New Mexico State University in 2017, as they were both pursuing their degrees in Journalism and Mass Communications. While they remained friends for more than a year, it wasn't until Allysa's internship at KFOX in El Paso that things began to change. Mike was a photographer at the time, and Allysa began finding excuses to join him on stories. During labor day weekend in 2018, Mike and Allysa went on their first date at the St. Anthony's Bazaar. It was here that Allysa convinced him to try a gordita for the first time. They were pretty much inseparable after that.

Allysa and Mike graduated from NMSU in 2019. That's when Allysa got a job in Lubbock as a TV reporter. Mike stayed in the El Paso/Las Cruces area until getting a job at KENS 5 in San Antonio not long after.

For two years, Allysa and Mike did long distance, making the six hour drive between Lubbock and San Antonio every two weeks. In 2021, Allysa also got a job at KENS 5 in San Antonio. They stayed in San Antonio until 2023, when Allysa got accepted to graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin. Since then, Mike has graciously supported Allysa's academic journey.

The couple got engaged in front of family and friends in El Paso, Texas in 2024.
