We met on a dating app during the COVID-19 shelter-in-place order. Alyssa was attracted to Vicrum’s silly and lighthearted nature, made evident by a profile picture of Vicrum dressed in a spectacular 80s-themed running costume. Vicrum was drawn to Alyssa’s love of making homemade desserts with fruit from her parents’ garden and eyed the chance to try her famous apple pie.

Our connection deepened as we continued to exchange messages on the app and talk over video calls (despite some bad pandemic wifi). Finally, we had our first in-person date in February 2021 at a small restaurant in Berkeley, CA called Jupiter. Alyssa recalls it feeling like meeting an old friend. Vicrum was overwhelmed by Alyssa’s beaming smile, personality, and appreciation for good hip-hop. The stakes were high. Vicrum knew he couldn’t mess this up.

Luckily Alyssa was equally infatuated with Vicrum and our relationship continued to mature in the following months. We connected on our shared love of sci-fi, cooking, and engaging debates. We were welcomed by each other’s families. We were our authentic selves with one another.

Both of us feel grateful to have found each other and to experience Such Great Heights of joy together.
