We met our freshman year of college ('19-'20), being on the cross country and track team together. This was when our friend group went to the homecoming dance. We barely knew each other at this time.
We started talking more on and after the trip to the Poconos with our friends during Fall Break of our junior year in college. Shortly after returning from the trip, Amber got Logan's number from her dad and texted him to make sure that he had her number too;) We texted fairly frequently thereafter.
I (Amber) started realizing that I really liked Logan when I sprinted back to my apartment from work to watch for the 2 seconds they showed Logan running at nationals on the computer, then sprinting back... was giddy when he sat next to me for a team movie night... couldn't help but peek a little at the secret santa names to make sure I secured Logan's so I could get him all of the many ideas that came so easily to mind...and continue to:)...and stay up WAY later than I would like to, just to stay doing homework together, and make pancakes for him at 1:00 in the morning one time!!! I guess actions speak louder than words sometimes ;) *note about early morning snacks (Later on down the road, Logan even brought the microwave from his apartment down to the basement to heat up homemade soft pretzels for us at 1:30 in the morning...the things we do for love...usually involve food with Logan :)
Our friends would often get together in the evenings for group study sessions at the library. One night, Logan and Amber were the last ones there and walked back to the apartments together. Just as we were about to part, Logan asked Amber to lunch at the Union. She said yes! Logan was going to ask her to date him then, but the moment didn't feel right.
February 10, 2022: A week or two later, Logan sent Amber a cryptic text message asking her if she could meet him at his apartment that evening, because there was "something we need[ed] to talk about." That evening, Logan had an incredibly thoughtful and intentional message asking her to date. Amber appreciated his transparency and clarity, and asked for some time to think about it, which she did. A week or two later, we started dating.
Logan led in our relationship right off the bat. He asked if we would like to do weekly devotions together. I (Amber) was very excited to hear this!! We agreed on going through James together, and when it came to where to meet, Logan recommended the highest floor of the tallest building on campus so that "we can be as close to God as possible". We had so many good conversations, and prayers during each of those Wednesday mornings before class. We still continue to this day, to have devos together every Wednesday, even through long distance. We have gone through two chapter books (following the whisper, single. dating. engaged. married.), a few books of the bible, and currently going through The Essential 100 survey through the bible) together. May God stay our firm foundation.
Amber fed her first calf when she visited Logan's home and met his family for the first time. She also climbed her first silo when we went up to watch the sunrise (more about that location to come *wink wink:)). Logan also met some of Amber's extended family on Easter Sunday. It was a wonderful Easter filled with time with both sides of the family!
Amber was working at Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio, and Logan was working for the Maryland State Highway Administration in Baltimore. 6.25 hours from each other, just about 400 miles apart. This time brought its challenges for us, as a new couple, but we knew this season would not last forever and was teaching us lots of things! We stayed connected primarily through google duo dates in the evenings. We also have many sweet memories from meetups halfway to hike toegther, and times when we drove to visit each other!
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
As we continue to pursue God and each other, love does not always come easy. There were times of goodness, such as the first time Dale & Denise got to see the Horst farm, cross-country meets with family, XC Nationals, team trip to the Smoky Mountains...but also low times that almost took us apart, but there was just enough love and endurance to bring us through as one. We continue to grow in love, endurance, and communication to bear all things.
Logan planned a surprise trip to Longwood Gardens to celebrate our one-year anniversary, with a nice dinner included afterward. It was a wonderful and beautiful time!
After attending 8 weddings together, we had plenty of opportunities to talk about marriage, but, that was not the Lord's plan for us right after graduation (so no ring before spring). We both were very excited to finally enter into the stage of life where we don't have homework!!
We both love spending time with our and each other's families!
We enjoyed making some very special memories with Dale and Denise during a trip to Colonial Williamsburg together!!
We always love going to visit the Horst family farm, and also had so much fun with them on a family trip to Harpers Ferry!!
We are excited for more memories to come!
Amber loves being Logan's cheerleader for running, and Logan has been Amber's cheerleader through health uncertainties.
We love to be each other's cheerleaders and will continue to be!
Remember that first silo climb the first time Amber visited the Horsts...well, we did it again, 7:30 in the morning, to start our day closer to God...AND TO GET ENGAGED!!
Logan, not surprisingly, planned a well-thought-out, thoughtful plan for March 9, 2024! After his unique and special proposal, we also enjoyed lunch with all our families together!!
We love biking, hiking, creek stomping, running, hanging out with friends and family, singing and playing guitar/piano, eating food...together, and are very excited to be able to do more of everything together and see what God has in store for us!!
