The joy of being together, makes life sweeter!

Neither Charles nor I, are big daters. I can count the number of dates I’ve been on on one hand. I kept praying for love to find me and I finally surrendered with these words, “Lord, YOUR WILL BE DONE!” A friend of mine once asked me as I lamented the woes of dating and the lack of a relationship, “Have you ever told anyone that you’re looking for love?” When I admitted that I had not, she immediately asked, “How will anyone know that you’re looking, if you don’t tell them?!” She was right! Immediately, I started mentioning to friends and colleagues about my dating plight, but nothing panned out.

In early September 2021, I was chatting with my dear friend of over 20 +years, Lakesha. As we were about to end the call, I told her, “Lakesha, if you know of anyone, please let me know.” She paused and said, “Wait a minute! I do know someone! Yes, he’s never been married, he doesn’t have any kids…yeah, I’m going to call him now!” That was the beginning of the courtship of Charles and me. Although we were in “medium pandemic” mode, we made an effort to text and chat on the phone for weeks. Our first “in person” meeting was via Zoom! Our first official date was a halfway point between Maryland and North Carolina…Richmond. The Richmond Botanical Gardens was our first in-person meeting. It was a sunny, cool day and we both agreed that the date was “the feeling of contentment”. We’ve been to movies, dinners, visited each other’s cities and continued growing in faith and love.

In October 2023, Charles made Maryland his permanent residency. As the days continue to wind down, we’re looking forward to becoming husband & wife. Our advice to anyone is Pray, Trust the Lord and “do you!”
