Meet Cute

Our story is one we have definitely perfected telling over the years. But that’s only because it’s a pretty dang cute one, if we do say so ourselves.

It was one early spring day in Seattle with unseasonably warm weather that started it all. Brenna had planned on moving to Southern California in just two weeks, and wanted to enjoy all of her favorite Seattle things. The 65 degrees and sunny skies called her outside to enjoy Gas Works Park, maybe for the last time in a long time. She packed up her new book, a blanket, and wore a bikini under her clothes in case it was warm enough to catch some sun. After grabbing a snack at Stone Way Cafe, another favorite, she made her way to Gas Works.

Little did she know, the Fates had plans for her. Lucas, one of our groomsmen, was on a mission to get a soccer game started and his group of friends needed more players. Brenna overheard him ask a number of park goers, knowing it was only a matter of time before she was asked. She debated what she would say. On the one hand, she was really into the book (Iron Gold by Pierce Brown), on the other, she should join in more- say yes!

So when Lucas approached she said why not. He told her to meet with his friends by the Slackline, “just over there”, and he'd be back soon, he had to get more recruits. When she did she found an incredible group of humans she would call friends forever, and her partner for life. Mason was showing off on the Slackline and she had been interested in the activity but had never had the courage to try. He talked her into it, and maintained an encouraging demeanor as she struggled to even stand up.

But a soccer game had been promised and so a soccer game was to be had. Having grown up playing competitive soccer Brenna was excited at the prospect of using skills she hadn’t in, admittedly, a few years. As the Fates would have it Mason and Brenna were placed on the same team. It wasn’t too long before obvious chemistry was in the air and the opposing team was… destroyed.

Chemistry turned into drinks after the park and several hangout sessions later there was definitely something there. But she was still moving. Like the (sly) gentlemen he is, Mason helped her pack her things into a U-Haul and they reluctantly said goodbye. Luckily we have modern technology, and just like that, a dedicated text relationship blossomed. After that they decided to put the success of their text relationship to the test so Brenna booked a flight back to Seattle. Even though it seemed to be a perfect match, Mason didn’t want a long distance relationship. But she was persistent. Two weeks before she flew to Seattle to join Mason and his friends for Sasquatch Music Festival (RIP) they made their relationship official.

At the festival Brenna was welcomed into his friend group with ease. She had the time of her life and Mason’s “test” of her (you try going to a 3 day music festival with people you barely know) was passed with flying colors. They exchanged “I love you”’s for the first time, making goodbyes only that much harder. After the festival it was only a month before she was moving back to Seattle, and they were moving in together.

From the beginning we have always believed in each other, and taken the chance. It hasn’t always been easy but it has always been worth it. The Fates had a plan, and at least to us, it was a pretty good one.
