Courtney and Justin’s love story begins like almost every classic love story you’ve seen in movies or read in romance novels – meeting in a paid neuroscience study at the University of Delaware! You see, when you’re 21 and an email comes in offering $18 an hour to answer questions for a couple of hours, you have no choice but to clear your schedule to be there. That’s lunch money and a night out at Grottos! Little did Courtney and Justin know, that email in February of 2018 would set them down a path that ultimately lead to their wedding in October of 2025. Court and Justin actually knew each other before running into each other at the study, which is what led them to chatting after the session. Justin’s younger brother and best man, Anthony “A” Drzal, also went to UD. He happened to live on the same freshman floor as Court. They were friends and enjoyed many nights out together. So although Court and Justin had crossed paths before, the study was the first time they really got to know each other. Justin was immediately enamored with Court and knew he had to see her soon. He was just hoping it would just be in a place with a little more atmosphere than the basement of Brown Lab. And as fate would have it, they ran into each other while out that same weekend. They spent the entire night, separated from their respective friends, talking, smiling, and laughing with one another. They both knew that they could not leave these nights up to chance. They exchanged numbers and began hanging out every opportunity they got. They went to date parties and pre-games and post-games, capped off by a wild weekend in Ocean City, Maryland. The only hiccup was that Justin was graduating that May, while Court still had another year at UD. Fortunately for them, Justin’s band, The Forest View Movement, was still playing weekend shows down at UD. So once the fall semester started, Court and Justin immediately sought each other out and picked up right where they left off. Only this time, they would be officially boyfriend and girlfriend WOOT WOOT! Fun fact: their first official date as boyfriend and girlfriend was to the Costco in the Christiana Mall complex. Talk about a step up from Brown Lab! With Justin living up in New Jersey with his parents, and Court living down in Newark, DE, they did what they could to visit each other. Charlie’s dinners with Pam and game nights with Lisa and Chap eventually turned into beach weekends in Seaside and Margate. In terms of quality time spent together with family, not much has changed since year one of their relationship. Their bond with each other’s loved ones has only grown. Courtney is actually the favorite on Justin’s side of the family, and on Courtney’s side… well yeah she’s still the favorite, what do you expect! When Court graduated, both her and Justin were living at their parents houses and enjoying life as young professionals. Justin was the first to move out in the fall of 2020 and was living with some friends in Philly. Court was always visiting, so much that she developed a great relationship with his roommates. They were becoming more and more intertwined in eachothers lives. In 2022, Court found an opportunity to take a job as a recruiter in Center City, Philadelphia. Shortly after, they found a cute little one bedroom one bathroom townhouse in the city and moved in together for the first time. That townhouse still holds a special place in their hearts. It was here they really nurtured their relationship and started the rest of their lives together. They filled it with art and pictures that were special to them. They made the most of their work routines and weekends there. They hosted friends for dinner parties and long weekends – making sure to utilize every square inch for air mattresses and the famed mega-couch. In October 2024 they left this apartment for vacation in Punta Cana as boyfriend and girlfriend, little did Courtney know they would return as fiancés. If you haven’t heard our engagement story yet, it’s a fun one. And it didn’t quite pan out the way Justin drew it up. It starts with unprompted conversation from a curious TSA agent and ends with the question, “Are you two here for the photo shoot?” from a resort worker. But in a lot of ways, it perfectly sums up Court and Justin’s relationship – as long as they were with each other, and committing their lives to one another, that’s what made it special. Being able to look back on that moment that brought them laughter and tears is something they will always cherish. And while to a lot of other couples it might not have been the picture perfect moment, to them it was. Since then, they’ve had a couple other milestones, most notably buying their first home together in December 2024. They hope to fill this home with milestones and memories for the next 30 years. And they can’t wait to start it off by celebrating the best day of their lives with you all this October!
