It was July 2014. Andrew and Danielle were acquaintances from bible study but mutual friend and bridesmaid Amanda Albert sensed there could be something more. When she and Danielle were in San Francisco for a long weekend, Andrew also happened to be up there and they all met up. An acquaintance became a friendship.

It was around that time that Andrew was interviewing for a long-term work assignment in Germany. Although Andrew and Danielle enjoyed spending time together and grew in closeness, the looming reality of Andrew’s move seemed an insurmountable hurdle to crossing the line from friends to more. Nevertheless, their friendship blossomed. The two spent Andrew’s last evening in the US together, and with teary eyes, the two said goodbye.

Within a few weeks, the two found themselves texting and talking on the phone often. Danielle came out to visit Andrew and they were off to magical Budapest. It was through this time together that they realized that long distance was not the limitation they thought it would be. A friendship became more.

Despite the challenge of long distance, the next 17 months were filled with trips and visits intermingled with FaceTime and texts. Andrew visited Danielle 5 times, she visited him 3 times. They met in the middle 4 times. While Andrew was staying busy with work, Danielle was balancing her job plus finishing her degree program. All the while, their relationship grew deeper.

Finally, in April of 2017 Andrew’s assignment was up and he moved back to Los Angeles. Danielle finished her schooling around the same time. On August 11, in Danielle’s favorite place in the world (Yosemite), Andrew asked her to be his wife. A relationship became an engagement.

It has been our prayer from the beginning that the Lord be ever present in our relationship, and He has shown His grace and blessing toward us throughout our story.

“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.” Proverbs 18:22
