We actually met in the McDonalds Drive through! I was working there over nights while going to St. Scholastica in Duluth,MN. David asked for my number and I usually never gave it out but he was so sweet and charming I was writing it down before I even processed everything he was saying. We texted a little bit but I ended up losing my phone and being the irresponsible college student I was, I hadn't backed anything up to the cloud. Months went by and we hadn't spoke.
I was at Black History Poetry Function at my school when I saw him on stage doing spoken word to a skit. I told all my friends he was this mystery man I told them about.
I knew I was all in love when I saw him up there. If you know David you know he is passionate, charming and has a way with words!
Long story, short- Iried to find him afterwards and could not. I went up to his friend who did the skit with him-a complete stranger who I now know is Daniel... I gave him the third degree about David's whereabouts. He looked at me like this crazy woman I was and wouldn't budge on any details. I saw him glancing towards the elevators so I turned and looked and there he was.
I was like my whole future is about to get on an elevator and disappear into the abyss... again.
So again... being a crazy person I ran down the stairs in an effort to catch him. I did catch him at the bottom of the elevator. After catching my breath I said Do you remember me?'
he replies yea, you played me then continues to tell me how he knows about girls like me and that his Momma warned him about “ girls like me”
I tried to explain to him that I the only type of girl I was, was the one who lost her phone every other month.
He wouldn't give me his number again but said he'd take mine. He texted me that night. We stood up all night talking and had our first date at a Mexican restaurant on Valentines day 2010.
If you truly know our journey, then you know we've had our ups and downs but, whether he knew it or not- he's been mine since then.
