Our Story / Nuestra Historia

How We Met…

Picture of How We Met…
We met at Whittier College, in fall of 2021, when we had Music Theory classes together. For Sam, it was love at first sight, and although Emma was oblivious for a long time, we started dating on August 30, 2022. Immediately, we felt comfortable and at peace together, and we knew that this relationship was different.

How We Fell in Love…

Picture of How We Fell in Love…
We went on all kinds of adventures together (everything from driving down a haunted road at night, to meeting our favorite drag queen, to painting pottery together and traveling), and in every instance, things just clicked. We started talking about the future, discussing the idea of settling down together.

How We Moved in Together…

We started sharing a dorm room together for Emma’s last year at Whittier College, then after graduation, we got the keys to our first apartment in Koreatown. Even when things were stressful (such as a strike at the college, or Emma’s work not providing hours), we were always able to find joy and peace in each other and the home that we built. We also adopted two cats, Maggie and Morty, while living at Whittier, and added a third, Gus, when we moved to LA!! We moved to Santa Clarita shortly after, and we’ve loved building our life together!

How We Got Engaged…

On Emma’s 23rd birthday, February 11, 2025, Sam proposed at the Santa Barbara Courthouse. For Emma, there was no hesitation in saying yes. We had discussed marriage thoroughly, and felt like it was the right choice for us and the family we were building together. A little over a week later, Emma proposed to Sam as well, on a trip up to Crestline and Big Bear. We both wanted the opportunity to start our married life feeling loved and special.

Q + A

Will there be a wedding party?

Since we plan on having so few guests, we won’t have a wedding party. Rest assured, there will still be both a ceremony and reception to attend!

Can I bring a plus one?

Unfortunately, due to limited space and food, we will not be allowing plus one’s. All wedding guests will be specifically listed on the invitation!

Can I bring my kids?

As we are not hosting plus ones, we do ask that unless your children are specifically mentioned on the invitation, that you do not bring your children.

What if I have a food allergy/restriction?

Please add your restrictions or allergies when you RSVP. That way, we can make sure there’s food for you!!

What should I wear?

Our wedding colors will be wine red, gold, and midnight blue, and our wedding decorations will have lots of floral and celestial elements. Think lots of trees, lots of flowers, sun, moon, stars, etc. Also, while we are in Southern California, the wedding will be in early March, which can be variable, so layers would be a good idea!

Why is the Registry so short?

We’ve already been living together for a few years now, which means we already have a lot of what we need to build a home together! There are a couple other items we would love, but weren’t able to add to our registry (in particular the Kitchenaid stand mixer with the copper bowl in the Target Magnolia Hearth and Home Collection, a set of Portmerion dishware, and copper pots and pans), but beyond that, the best gifts would be either activities for our honeymoon (we will be driving a camper van through Italy, from Milan to Naples, then boating around the Aegean Sea and the Greek Islands!!!), or sentimental gifts such as family recipes or board games we can play as a family!

What kinds of activities will there be at the reception?

As we aren’t really dancers, the evening will be centered around playing games, listening to music, and enjoying each other’s company!!! We will have a dance floor available as well for those guests who do wish to dance. We will have a boba tea cart for refreshments and an audio guest book as well.

What language will the ceremony be in?

Our ceremony will be bilingual, featuring readings in both English and Spanish. This way, we can honor both halves of our relationship, as well as our family’s intercultural roots. Translated readings will be available in the program!
