One bright July, you lit up my sky!

The BeginningWe’ve known each other for over a decade in Austin, but it wasn’t until the Fourth of July two years ago that we finally had our first date. The SparkMike invited Garrett to watch fireworks on the lake for the Fourth of July, but he had to make it explicitly clear that watching fireworks on the lake was a date and that Garrett should come. Garret jumped in an Uber and made a quick stop at a grocery store to pick up a floatie (shaped like a chili pepper). He jumped into the water to find Mike celebrating the holiday with a comically large Uncle Sam hat. A sparkler mishap ended up skining his floatie, but not the night. That evening lit the fuse, and since then, they’ve shared fireworks and bright skies together across the globe. The JourneyAlong the way, Mike passed down his love of college football, while Garrett opened the door to tabletop gaming. Mike’s Army travels have carried him far, and together we’ve begun filling Garrett’s passport with its first stamps. The ProposalThis past Summer in Rome, Garrett proposed at a rooftop café as fireworks exploded above Castel Sant’Angelo. The Celebration AheadWe chose Austin, the place we both call home, for our wedding. With Garrett’s family from Kansas and Mike’s from California, Texas feels like the right middle ground. On July 3rd, we’ll gather to join spirits, and on July 4th, we’ll carry the celebration to the lake to share the holiday and fireworks with our favorite people. We can’t wait to celebrate with you.

The goal is for most of our out-of-town guests not to have to rent a car. We recommend hotels near downtown Austin, TX. From the airport (Austin-Bergstrom International Airport), downtown is approx. 15 minutes away (roughly a $25 rideshare). Rehearsal dinner and Fourth of July fireworks will be close to downtown. The actual ceremony will be in Dripping Springs, TX. Pending the number of RSVPs from guests coming in from out of state, the couple will coordinate bus transportation from a location downtown (Pinthouse Pizza - 4236 S Lamar Blvd. Austin, TX 78704). As plans get solidified, this page will be updated.

It’s going to be hot in Texas during July. Not warm, hot. The wedding venue was chosen for its large indoor air conditioned space, but the ceremony and cocktail hour are planned to be outside. We’re not wearing ties to our own wedding, so we don’t expect you to. Where should guests plan to stay? - The ceremony and reception will be on Friday in Dripping Springs, TX but we recommend guests stay near Downtown, Austin (south of the river). We plan to coordinate shuttles to the wedding from a point nears. Lamar &amp; S. Capital of Texas HWY 360 depending on RSVPs. Are you planning anything for the 4th of July? - Yes. Please stay Saturday night to watch fireworks with us Downtown at Lou Neff Point in Zilker Park. We will be in the water so bring a floatie and water shoes. This was our first date and we’d love to show you a great time for the holiday. Then Sunday can be a travel day. The weather is expected to be hot, not warm. The dress code for the reception is Western attire. No tuxedos, please. Jeans, boots, and a button-up collared shirt are preferred. Sport coats if you want to dress it up. Cowboy hats are appreciated. We're not wearing ties to our own wedding, so you shouldn't have to either. Children are welcome to the wedding and reception, just make sure to include them in your RSVP. For the lake event on the 4th of July there will not be a life guard on duty. We recommend bringing floaties and drinks of your choice. There is a sand bar where you are able to stand in the water.

We’re bringing in Gone to Texas, an 8-piece country cover band that absolutely slaps (in a very yee-haw way). They’re live, they’re loud, and they’re specifically here to make sure nobody sits down for too long. We’ve got a legit two-step instructor teaching during cocktail hour, so you’ll be boot-scootin’ by dinner whether you planned on it or not. Don’t think you can dance? And come ready to dance your boots right off.
