Matthew and Giscela first met at work. In January 2021, they both joined the same onboarding group at BDO, a public accounting firm. With the pandemic still in full swing, everything started remotely, so their paths didn’t cross in person for months.

That changed in the summer of 2021 when Matthew decided to go into the office. As he walked down the hallway past the break room, Giscela happened to be walking out. He tried to catch her eye to say hello, but she passed by too quickly.

Later that day, as they were both heading to their desks, Matthew recognized her and said, “Giscela?” She immediately recognized his voice, and they stopped to talk. That moment marked the beginning of a connection that felt natural and effortless. Over the next few months, whenever they saw each other, they would chat, share laughs, and grow closer, talking about work, life, and everything in between.

Later that year, at a company party, Matthew decided to take a chance and make his feelings known. When their eyes met, there was an undeniable spark—both of them knew this was something meant to last forever.

Fast forward to late August 2024, Matthew proposed at midnight on his rooftop after a White Sox vs. Tigers game, with the Chicago skyline as the backdrop. Now, they can’t wait to begin their next chapter together as husband and wife.
