A long time ago…in a galaxy far far away…wait wrong story. Let me try this again. I want to be the very best! No, that’s not it either. Our story actually starts on none other than the internet; in true millennial fashion. As young adults in our early 30s, we were both frustrated with love and wondered if we were meant to ever settle down. This is a common theme among our generation. Dating these days is a minefield at times. On the surface we don’t seem like the perfect fit. Jess is quiet and reserved while Sean is loud and obnoxious. Our first date consisted of Sean thinking about how much he is talking too much while Jess worried she wasn’t saying enough. Somehow, we both seemed to prefer it this way. This was following a botched first attempt at a date. Sean got overly excited and asked Jess to go to a Roger Waters concert with him (He is from Pink Floyd for anyone reading this with worse taste in music than us). Jess got scared that Sean was going to kidnap her and didn’t go. Sean couldn’t be happier that Jess asked for a second chance at date number one. From there we hit the ground running. The second date was described by Jess as the “best date I’ve ever been on.” This definitely stroked Sean’s ego. So naturally this is where the first kiss comes in…. nope. Jess was feeling under the weather that night so no kiss for Sean. This made him wonder if things were going to continue and what Jess was thinking. Apparently, Jess also wanted that first kiss because not long after, she was feeling better, and Sean got that first kiss. An awkward half miss initially, which was corrected into a beautiful moment by the water in Peekskill.
Our early dates consisted of non-stop conversations that we never wanted to end. We began to see each other regularly after the first couple of months of dating. This led to taking trips together to places like Disney World, North Carolina, and Oklahoma. Our future trips see us in Spain, Peru, and Japan! We are both so excited to see what the world has to offer each of us. Living together has been the easiest transition of our lives. We were nervous at first because we all have our little idiosyncrasies that nobody else knows about and we love each other even more for them. With all of our future plans and our easy transition into roommates, we thought there was only one logical next step…host a small get together on New Years! Oh, and then there was that proposal. That happened on New Years too. Sean’s sister Kerry made an excuse to get Jess outside (she said Sean was sick and doubled over outside). Sean was in fact down on one knee, surrounded by rose petals and asked Jess to marry him surprising her with a beautiful ring in an equally beautiful ornate Mandalorian ring case.
Our love is defined by a desire to be around each other and to share all of life’s ups and downs. We respect each other’s boundaries and strive to help each other be the best versions of ourselves we can be. There is a level of comfort that neither of us have ever felt before. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for us and our friends and family!
