Our Wedding

Corin and I met in September of 2022. She made a trip to PA with her sister Rilian (Matron of Honor) to visit Caleb (Best Man) shortly after he moved back to PA. I had made a joke that I would be waiting for her with flowers when she arrived. At this time, Corin was in a relationship and I was not interested in having a relationship with her. I was just doing it for the laugh. Guess the joke was on me! They arrived at Caleb's parents house and on the table were two dozen artificial white roses, Corin's favorite flower, with a card from your's truly! In the card I congratulated Corin on getting the honor to walk "The Best Man" at Caleb and Rilian's wedding down the aisle. That night we all sat around talking at the table getting to know one another a little more. This consisted mainly of the then Smith girls grilling me with questions about my past relationships and trying to figure out my perfect match in Florida. If you know Corin or Rilian, you know they love match making... they get it honestly from their mother! Their trip that September was brief but it was the seed to our relationship. Over the next few months, Corin and I would send each other messages on Instagram bantering back and forth on whether a four year degree is a necessity or not. A year later, and we still are on opposing sides on this one. Nevertheless, it gave us a reason to go back and forth. That spring, Caleb and I moved into the same apartment to get some time together before he got married in May. While being there, I would get to see Corin every now and then on Caleb's Facetime calls with Rilian. I would say "Hi" and then quickly ask her why she enjoys being wrong about whatever topic we texted about last. She would snap back with some remark that I would defend and that was it. Until May, we never talked in depth or even talked about the idea of more than friendly banter between us. At the beginning of May, Caleb and I flew down to Florida to get ready for his wedding. There we stayed at Rodger and Dawn's house, working and running errands to prepare for the wedding. During those days, I got to see Corin in action, planning and executing whatever last minute thing there was to make their day go smoothly. I found myself staying up late to spend more time with them listening to the conversations taking place in the kitchen. As the wedding got closer, I had more opportunities to talk with Corin and get to know her. I realized I was being drawn to her. Whether it was playing a card game or sitting at dinner I normally found a way to be next to her...luckily she never noticed! ;)...but of course her family did. They called me out for sitting next to her and Caleb when we went out to dinner instead of with Caleb's family at the table next to us. By this point, it was becoming obvious that I was fond of Corin. May 5th, Caleb asked me what was holding me back from asking her out and at least giving it a shot. I quickly replied with she is way too young and I live in PA! No one likes long distant, (I still stand by the fact that no one likes it.) He then reminded me that I pushed him to go out with a younger girl months before moving back to PA and she was becoming his wife in three days! I appreciated him giving me the credit for pushing him to date his now wife, but was not sold that it was the same situation I was facing. The next day was a busy one, Corin and I were the only two that had no plans so we decided to go to lunch together. I was then questioned at lunch on whether or not it was a date. We continued to talk for a while, until I was asked again if it was a date. I expressed that I liked Corin a lot and thought highly of her but had no interest in being in a relationship 1,000 miles apart. I asked if she felt differently or if she agreed. She then did agree that long distance was not what she wanted either. I later found out she did not agree with me on the matter...she just wanted my thick skull to come to that conclusion on my own. Luckily for me I am a fast learner, and I figured out that I didn't want to leave Florida without at least asking her if she would give us a shot. At the wedding rehearsal, we were stuck together the entire time as I was the Best Man and Corin was the Maid of Honor. Laughing together and celebrating with Caleb and Rilian, the four of us rode together to the rehearsal dinner. Once we arrived I decided to be flirty, so I tried to push Corin into a bush while walking in...a real classic. She avoided falling in and deep down thought it was hilarious and loved every second, though I wasn't sure she got the message. So during the dinner, I was able to catch her attention from across the room and winked at her. I don't know why that was my move but it was! Without hesitation, she winked back. At that moment, I had so many butterflies in my stomach I thought I was floating out of my seat! After dinner, we all got in the car to go home and Caleb turned on some of our favorite songs to sing. I was scream singing and decided to grab Corin's hand. Though it was dark, within five seconds Caleb spotted it and started trying to get Rilain's attention to point out that we were holding hands. At this point, we all knew I was sunk. The only question was would I admit it and ask Corin out. The rest of the weekend was crazy and we had very little time but I was able to pull Rodger aside the morning of Caleb and Rilian's wedding. He probably wanted to be alone to cope with losing one daughter to a PA boy when a second one appeared to ask to take his other daughter away. We talked and I got a great idea of how much Rodger cares about his kids and what he wants for them. After a while, we realized we needed to get moving or we would be late for the wedding! He prayed for me and for Corin and we went on our way. The wedding was beautiful and we all had a great time! Afterwards, I asked Corin if she wanted to go to McDonald's with me. I love McDonald's and it was 11:00PM, cut me a little slack. On the way, I told her about my conversation with her dad and how I felt. I told her the good, the bad, and the ugly and asked if after hearing it all if she was interested in giving us a shot. The only thing faster than her wink the night before was her YES. It caught me off guard in the moment but I was nothing but happy! Sadly, I had to leave to go back to PA early the next morning so our relationship was very quick to move long distance. I am so thankful that I came to the conclusion that I wanted Corin in my life and that she was willing to accept the responsibility for claiming me as her other half for the rest of hers! I love you, Corin!

Jon's Point of View

In August of 2022, is when you could say our story truly began. Rilian, my sister, came home to see me and was so excited to tell me about this guy who was “absolutely perfect for me.” I of course ignored my older sister because that’s just what the youngest in the family does. I ended up getting into a relationship and put that “perfect match” in the deepest part of my mind. Next thing you know, I am on a plane with Rilian to visit Caleb in Pennsylvania. Previous to this flight, I was strangely asked what my favorite flower was for “no specific reason.” When we got off the plane and made it to Calebs parents house I found white artificial roses in a vase sitting on the counter with a note from Jon. When I read it I thought it was the most cockiest thing ever. Then I saw him sitting in a chair, watching the TV,  and wondered how my sister ever thought we would be good together. A few nights later, I really pushed the thought deeper away when he tried to tell me a four year degree was unnecessary. To him, it was “C’s make degrees,” which was completely against anything I believed in when dealing with education. To remember the time I spent there, I decided to take home three of the white roses. After that time, we texted very minimally and only if there was something to disagree on, from education to music taste. I would see him once in a while on Rilian’s phone through calls but never seemed to like him any better. Eight months go by and we finally make it to the week before the wedding of Caleb and Rilian. Jon and Caleb were on their way down to my parents house, when I got a text saying there needed to be flowers on the table for a certain someone when they got there. I bet you could guess who that was. Instead of going and getting some, I decided to just grab the three handy dandy white roses I had laying around and added my own handwritten note. They arrived, and the next few days were surprisingly really fun. I realized over that week I was excited to come home and see him, I would try to get him to bring me lunch at work, and I would always be next to him in the car. There were a few times I felt like he was drawing near to me too. On May 5th, I was getting asked by everyone how I felt about Jon and I just started saying I really liked him. Seeing Jon in Florida, showed me a completely different person then who I first met. It showed me the man I would soon come to love. Jon and I found out that neither one of us had plans the next day and decided we would go to lunch together…alone. It definitely seemed to be set up as a date, so of course Rilian needed to ask if it was. Jon jokingly said yes at the time but to me it still seemed like a possibility. Later that night, Rilian and I were in my room just talking like sisters do when she mentioned his name. She asked if I was really starting to like him and I couldn’t lie, I was. In situations dealing with guys I’m usually very good but I had no idea how to come across this one. I am usually the straightforward sister but in this scenario Rilian was the one telling me I needed to ask if he liked me back or if this was all just for fun. The next day, Jon and I went out to lunch on what was a “date” in my head and the first thing I asked him was “Do you like me or are you just flirting?” My straightforward moment had come, though I did not necessarily get the answer I was looking for. It started off great with Corin I like you, youre great but…We all know how that goes. He did not want to do long distance and asked my opinion on it. While I verbally agreed with him, I mentally did not. I would have started a relationship with him right then and there but he needed to figure that out on his own. We get to the night of the rehearsal dinner and when walking into the church Jon decided to try and push me into the bush, which I thought was just his playfulness. The rest of the night I was running around getting things ready, doing a whole bunch of random stuff when at one moment I looked over at Jon and he winked…at me!! I didn’t even think about it and immediately winked back. I had no idea what to think about that, he just told me the day before we werent going to be anything. Then the last thing took place, he escorted me out of the building. No man just puts their hand on your back and leads you out of the room for no reason! I thought I was thinking into every little thing a bit too much until the car ride home solidified everything. Caleb, Rilian, Jon, and I were all heading home and we decided to do the classic lets compare our hand sizes. After Jon and I held our hands up for a little, I took mine away but his stayed. I saw him turn his hand downward and wasnt sure if I was supposed to do something or if that was supposed to be a move. So I just slid my hand right under his and he held it! I was in the backseat of a car holding hands with someone who did not want to date me…what?! I wasn’t going to ruin the moment though, I just wanted to stay there with him. Sadly we got home not long after that and I did not want this strange but amazing night to end. Except, we had to get my sister ready to get married the next day woohoo! We got up and I knew I wanted to talk to Rilian about making this day all about her. She looked at me and told me that one thing that would make the day even better would be seeing Jon and I together. This was like the next thing she cared most about on the day of her wedding besides the obvious like Caleb, getting married, etc. Hearing her say that, showed me this guy was truly someone special. Throughout the course of the wedding day, I got to see Jon a few times due to our very similar duties. I was put on a mission to give the rings to the Best Man and I was the happiest I could have been. When I finally saw him he looked amazing. He told me I looked beautiful and I swear my cheeks were bright red with my jaw dropping all the way to the floor. He called me beautiful! What else does a girl need to hear. Though we had to cut the moment short and get back to our duties. A few hours later, all of the wedding party were gathered around to take pictures when Jon looked at me and told me he had a great talk with my dad not long before. What was that supposed to mean?! I asked him and he said he couldnt say. My first thought was about dating me but like we all know, he told me the day before that wasnt going to happen. I pushed the comment away and focused on the rest of the wedding day. It was a blast and was gorgeous seeing my sister get married to the love of her life. We headed to eat dinner and I completely lost Jon. I was trying to find him and could not spot him anywhere. I finally decided to look into the room where Rilian and Caleb were eating and there he was. I went up to my sister to talk to her when in the background I faintly heard Jon say, “When its done, its done.” That was my dads most important line in any conversation he had with someone wanting to date one of his daughters! But nope, to me for some reason it was nothing and I put that line on the back burner. Near the end of the night, Jon and I realized neither of us were able to eat much so we took a trip to McDonalds. On the way, I found it to be the perfect time to bring up what was mentioned at the wedding party pictures. I asked him what he and my dad talked about and he looked at me and said I asked him to date you. My heart felt like it was beating out of my chest when I heard him ask me to date him and without hesitation I said yes! I could tell it caught him off guard with how fast I agreed but I couldnt care less. I was dating Jon Stern, there was nothing else I wanted more at that moment. I fell madly in love with him quickly after that. Rilian turned out to be right and it was the best thing to have ever happened to me. I am so excited for us to start our own life together. I love you Jon, youre everything I could ever want!
