First of all, let us start by thanking TIna and Dina for relentlessly suggesting we would make a great couple. If it werent for them, and a little known pandemic, who knows if Dillon and Julia would even be here today.
The Pilot Episode
Dillon caught Julia’s eye while working at the hospital. She noticed his aqua blue eyes, nice smile, and disturbingly dark yet hilarious sense of humor. She found herself blushing and barely able to look at him. Dillon played it cool. Perhaps too cool, or was it just too shy? Finally, on October 4th, 2019, Julia worked up the nerve to send Dillon an instant message where she proceeded to ramble on about nothing of importance. The conversation concluded within a few days. Dillon and Julia continued to work together, secretly hoping the other was working the same shift. On December 12, 2019, Dillon sent an instant message asking Julia how the dating scene was going. He was coolly testing the waters to see if Julia was single. She was.
Season One
The two continued to message all through the month of December. Getting to know each other the way millennials do these days, never once picking up the phone to actually talk. The New Year came and went. Julia worked and Dillon went out with friends. No New Years kiss was shared. Then, on January 4th, the two went on their first date to The Local, a small kitchen and taproom with local brews. They were seated in a booth where they shared good conversation, good food, and good laughs. During this date, Julia looked up at a neighboring table and noticed familiar faces...coworkers! She whispered across the table to let Dillon know, after all, they were trying to keep this date a secret. Work gossip is insatiable and they didnt want any part of it. Needless to say, the date concluded without a hitch and the two managed to leave without anyone being none the wiser.
Fast forward a few months and the world was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. The whole world shut down; schools, grocery stores, shopping centers, restaurants, offices...everywhere was closed, except the hospital. Dillon and Julia worked tirelessly side-by-side, commiserated, and relaxed together. Love was born in the middle of chaos as the two became each others best friends and safe place.
Season Two
The world slowly resumed to its new normal. Dillon and Julia were officially a couple. Julia enjoyed sharing her love of Eric Church with Dillon and Dillon shared his favorite comic, Tom Segura, with her. They went to Husker tailgates and games, but only early in the season because Julia hates being cold. Dillon was a trooper as Julia dragged him to countless craft fairs, farmers markets, and little shops where she would painstakingly look at every item while commentating on if it was cute or not. Dillon learned to paddle board, kind of, but not really - he learned to sit on a board and drink a beer. Dillon moved in with Julia and gave her two sweet-but-ornery kittens, Chuck and Lola, for mothers day. She did not get excited, she did not smile, and she did not say thank you but she now loves those little hair tie thieves. Together, Julia and Dillon saved for a house, moved again, and experienced Julias first-time need for stitches. They bought their first Christmas tree and celebrated the holidays with family and friends. They talked about the future, their goals as a couple, and looked at rings.
Season Three
Dillon and Julia had looked at rings, she oohed and aahed, he took down notes and saved penny by penny. Dillon asked Julia’s son, Carter, if he would be ok if Dillon asked her to marry him. Carter said, Yeah, bruh or something along those lines as a young teenage boy. Dillon bought a ring and put it in his drawer where it sat waiting for the perfect moment. Months went by. Dillon was nervous. He wanted to make sure he did this right...he wanted to make it special. More months went by. Finally on one December evening, Carter, Julia, and Dillon loaded up in the car to look at Christmas lights. One particular house had a bench where passerby could get out of their vehicles and get a photo op. Dillon was acting suspicious and Julia was catching on. The three of them climbed out of the car and took turns taking photos of one another. They were the only ones there. Julia thought this is it as she and Dillon sat on the bench with Carter taking photos. Dillon put his arm around her...and then a car pulled up. Dillon aborted the mission and gripped the box in his pocket as the three of them returned to the car.
Time continued to march on. The ring sat in the drawer. Months went by. One morning as Dillon was driving Carter to school, Carter asked Dillon if he changed his mind about marrying his mom. Dillon assured Carter he had not. Now you know it has been a long wait when a teen boy noticed. The final school bell rang for the year and the family loaded up the car for a good old fashioned family vacation. They drove to Estes Park, Colorado where they mustered the courage to ride on an antique aerial tram, ride a downhill roller coaster, and hand feed wild ground squirrels. The three of them shared jokes and delicious food. They went to Rocky Mountain National Park and hiked to Alberta Falls, taking lots of photos along the way. As Julia peered over the cliff, Dillon worked up his courage. She turned around. He got down on one knee. Carter took photos. She said Yes.
Season Four
They’ve made their plans and hope you’ll join them in celebration. Let’s continue writing this love story!
