The Proposal

The Scavenger Hunt

McKenzie's Point of View:

The proposal was absolutely incredible! Nick did such a perfect job planning and making sure it was something we would never forget. He had a huge scavenger hunt planned out for me. At each stop, there was someone important to me waiting there with two roses and a card about those people. There are pictures below of each step of the experience.

First stop: I was hanging out at my parents house with my hair in a braid, no makeup on, and wearing sweatpants. My parents walk into the living room with two roses and a card. That is exactly when I knew what was happening!

The hint at the bottom of the card had me making my way down to the island that is on our family land.

Second stop: We get to the island and my brother is there. He gives me the two roses and the card! The note that Nick had written about my brother was one of my favorites.

The hint at the bottom had me heading to my Great Grandma's house to see my dad's side of the family.

Third stop: Once I got to my Grandma Maggie's house, there were some very important women from my dads side there. My nannie (grandma), my two great aunts, and one of my cousins were there. One of my great aunts had decorated a poster board with pictures of my great grandma and my papa so that they could be there on this special day with us.

The hint at the bottom told me to head to where I was a three sport athlete and an A+ student. When I read this and knew that I was heading to the high school, I knew my friends were going to be there.

Fourth stop: When we got to the high school, my best girls from high school were there, with one on Facetime, to help me celebrate. It meant so much to have them all be there, even though we don't all live 10-15 minutes away from each other anymore. They all dropped what they had going on to be there with me on this special day.

The next hint told me to head to the church that I was raised in!

Fifth stop: At the church, was my aunt and uncle on my mom's side. Every Saturday night, before church on Sunday, Ethan and I would spend the night with them and my two first cousins. One of these two cousins is the one that was with me each step of this scavenger hunt taking pictures, while the other one was with Nick at the proposal location taking pictures of the setup.

The next hint told me that my parents were going to have to lead the way to the next stop.

Sixth stop: When we were pulling up to this beautiful place, I see Nick's parents. They were standing in the parking lot of the proposal place. When I got to them, I caught a glimpse of Nick and that is when the tears started. I was honestly just proud of myself for holding it together for that long.

The final hint told me to take the next few steps to my future.

FINAL stop: Nick. He was standing beneath the Cross with the beautiful scenery behind him. There were magnolia tree leaves scattered all down the aisle and candles lining the way to him. Unfortunately, it was really windy so they wouldn't stay lit, but it was breathtaking. I kept my eyes on him the whole walk to him. When I got to him and he took my hands, we both started crying. I had not talked to him all day and I could tell we were both nervous, so I asked him for a hug. When he pulled back, he started talking to me telling me how much I mean to him. Then, he gets down on one knee and asked me to marry him. There are no words for how happy I was in that moment. I said yes and then went down to hug him without even putting on the ring. We stand back up and he puts on the most perfect ring I have ever seen.
