Our Story

BYU

Picture of BYU

The reason BYU is important is because we met in BYU. We went to the Accounting Program at the same time. We shared classes and friends but we never talked once or we don't remember if we did.

BYU is where it began and we are glad it didn't end there.

The Tetons - The Setup

Picture of The Tetons - The Setup

The Tetons National Park is a special place because it was where our matchmakers set in motion our first date.

Chase was on a trip with Ale, Miranda's roommate, and Ethan, Chase's roommate, and Angela. At the beginning of the trip, Ale turned to Chase and said, "You should ask out Miranda". Chase replied, "I would love to!" After that moment, the group would tease Chase about asking Miranda out. Whenever he would say something like " I like that mountain", they would respond by saying, "You know who likes that mountain? ... Miranda" This happened with anything that he said.

By the End of the Trip, Chase was determined to ask Miranda out. 4 months later, He finally made called as asked her out.

911 Baines - First Date, First Kiss

4 Months after the fateful trip to the Tetons, Chase finally made the first move and asked Miranda on a Dinner date.

I want to switch to my point of view (this is Chase by the way). I was very nervous about the date because I wanted it to go well. Miranda and I hadn't interacted much before I asked her out but I knew she was cute and I was excited to get to know her more.

I am embarrassed to admit this but I went out and bought new clothes just for this event. I picked a middle of the road restaurant, nice but not to fancy. We went to Oren's Hummus in Palo Alto.

The date was fine. Both of us will admit that we did not have fireworks on the first date. There was nothing bad about it but there was nothing that stood out. Gratefully, we continued to go on dates.

We went Mini golfing, carved pumpkins, cooked dinner, and had a movie night. All were great dates but still I didn't know if this was actually going anywhere. Then, We had our first kiss. It changed everything. The fireworks were there, the closeness was there. It was as if a switch had been flipped.

I left leaving our first date feeling like I may have just found my wife. I called my sister Madie to tell her. Obviously, I didn't tell Miranda this until much later because I didn't want to freak her out.

This is why 911 Baines will always be special to us. It is where the foundation of our relationship was formed. We found each other and after that first kiss our relationship took off.

Lands End

Picture of Lands End

Lands End is a special place because it was our first Saturday date. I (again Chase writing here) would frequently refer this to our first daylight date because all of our dates up to this point had been after work and the sun had gone down.

I wanted to do something special so I planned a date to the Legion of Honor and then to walk around Lands End.

The goal was to be there around sunset so it would be more romantic.

To my surprise, I woke up to storm clouds and heavy rain. I thought my plan was ruined. Turns out Miranda Loves the rain so it was a great date! It was the first of many rainy dates. This date was special because we both talked about how we would want this relationship to go. This is why Lands End is special to us

Potato Hill

Picture of Potato Hill

Potato Hill is a hill near my house in Draper. It is a great lookout spot where you could see three different temples at once if you are in the right place.

Miranda and I hadn't seen each other for a while because of traveling so this meeting was special. I showed her around Draper, We drove up to the hill and I got to share where I grew up. She mentioned to me later that this day was one of many that helped her realize her feelings for me. This is Why Potato Hill is Special.

Universal Studios

This was a Family Trip that Miranda took while we were dating. We had become official a few weeks before and We face timed Throughout that trip.

For me this was an introduction to the Calders and their sense of humor. Miranda would take our call in the closet, She would hide behind a curtain to have some privacy, or she would go out into the hall. The brothers, nieces, parents, and nephews would tease her by following her and tell me how she was feeling (she hadn't told me how she felt yet).

This trip was a window into the Calders and I feel so grateful to join the family.

Big Sur

Big Sur will always be special to us. Our Bishop recommended a hike so we decided one weekend to drive down.

The hike was steep, and we found out quickly that Miranda has a longer stride than me. she quickly outpaced me climbing up the hill.

Once we got to the top, we could see the whole Big Sur coastline. Miranda then turned around, wrapped her arms around me and told me that she loves me. It was one of the happiest days of my life. So much so I didn't even feel the rest of the hike.

We were in Love! Big Sur will always embody that for us.

This was Miranda's Apartment for the majority of our Courtship. She loves this spot. In the Spring, the neighborhood smells like flowers. The park nearby was perfect for walks and for resting in the sun.

This spot is also special because this is where I told her that I want to marry her. I expressed how I was going to pray seriously about us and search for an answer. I was so in love with her that I kinda already knew what the answer was.

This apartment is where we celebrated valentines day, where we cooked together, where we watched ted lasso, and where I grew more and more in love with her.

Castle Rock

Picture of Castle Rock

We love to Hike! So for Valentines day, we decided to hike at a place called Castle Rock and then go out to dinner. The day arrived and it was raining all day long.

What I have loved and will always love is that Miranda loves the rain and is undeterred by inclement weather. So although the rainstorm was strong, we still did our hike.

It felt as if the storm was raging down directly onto us. But I felt at peace. I had my love with me. Regardless of how stormy it was, we were going to have a great time and celebrate our love together.

1056 16th Avenue

Picture of 1056 16th Avenue

This was my apartment (This is Chase). This place is an absolute dump so we didn't spend much time here. for those who know, this house was falling apart but it was cheap so it was worth it to stay.

The reason this place is important has nothing to do with the environment or the building but what happened on March 16th.

After my Birthday celebration, we went back to my place to unwind and watch a movie. Little did she know that I had gotten my answer that I wanted to marry Miranda. I told myself that I would wait. That lasted 20 minutes. We were talking about the future and I asked her if she has gotten an answer or if she needed more time. She told me that she had gotten an answer.

I confessed my feelings, that I wanted to marry her, that I got my answer and felt prompted to marry her. To my delight, she said that she also got the same answer and that she feels the same way! We were getting married!

This is why 1056 16th Ave will always be special to me.

The Secret Place

Picture of The Secret Place

This is Miranda's favorite spot! She specifically told me that this was a place that she would only take someone special.

The day finally came that she was going to take me back there. As we were walking up she emphasized to me that this was very special. Little did she know, I had a special surprise hidden in my backpack.

We reached a lookout point. It was a wooden platform that looked out over the whole valley. We sat down, with our legs dangling over the edge, and I gave her a journal. This journal detailed moments over the past 6 months that I fell more and more in love with her. She began reading it out loud and I began to execute my plan.

I needed to sneak behind her with out her noticing. I feigned needing to stretch (I had run a half marathon earlier that morning). I slowly worked my way onto one knee. She turned around, looked at me, and asked, "Are you comfortable like that?". Yes I replied immediately and brought out the ring.

She was surprised. My plan had worked! I don't remember the details of what I said but how I felt was clear. I had found my wife. she had found me. We were getting Married!
