Josh and I met in 2020 at Columbia Bible College. I was taking the Columbia One biblical studies certificate and he was taking the Emergency Rescue Technician program. We met about the second week of school in the student lounge. At this time I was still on crutches, 10 months into recovery for a broken leg. Joshua saw the crutches and decided to play on my crutches and had the audacity to say that "injury is just a mindset. If you get it through your head that you're not injured you'll be fine." He said all this without cluing in that I was actually injured and did later apologize. It is now one of our favourite stories to share about how we met.

After that initial meeting, our friend circles merged and we began to hang out with that shared group. We played lots of cards and went on many off-campus adventures. November 30, 2020, Joshua asked me out and after praying about it, we felt that that was the right next step for our relationship. 3 months later, we went on a hike at Bridal Veil Falls which is the first place we said "I Love You."

After a year at CBC, we both moved to Cranbrook, BC to attend College of the Rockies. He did a fire training program and I began my Kinesiology degree.

Since then, Josh has been working as a Firefighter and I am working on my 3rd year of my Kinesiology degree. We now are both living in Vancouver which is where he proposed at the waterfall, where we first said "I love you."

In September of 2020 at Columbia Bible College, I was messing around on a pair of crutches I found leaning against a couch in the student lounge. As I was messing around, I was explaining to a group of people a joke that my buddy had made; “Injury is a mindset” and “You just need to believe you're not injured and everything will be okay”. Nadine didn’t see the humour as she was 10 months into recovery from a broken leg. She informed me that that wasn’t how it worked and it was her crutches that I was playing on. I’m not sure it was a coincidence that two weeks after hearing my philosophy she was walking around without crutches. Not only did my advice heal her leg, but it also made her fall deeply in love with me…just kidding she thought I was a doink. Regardless, I thought she was cool and decided to get to know her over the next few months.

September and October consisted of me losing or winning card games on purpose so the seating arrangement (one of the rules of the game) would put me next to her for the next round. We went on many off-campus adventures with our friend group where we got to know each other better. On October 31st, Nadine gave me a ride home from a campfire and I knew I wanted to date her. The following month I began to make my intentions more clear as we started having deeper conversations about faith and aspirations. On November 30th, we made the drive to a nice lookout to watch a sunset and I asked Nadine to officially be my girlfriend.

In September of 2021 we separately to Cranbrook, BC to start at College of the Rockies. Me, to be a firefighter and Nadine for Kinesiology. For 2 years we lived in Cranbrook dating with the intention of one day getting married. We had an incredible community that embraced us and some amazing mentors who walked with us in our relationship.

The Proposal

After a little over 2 years of dating, I (Joshua) started thinking about proposing. In July of 2023, Nadine and I went to the Fehr Farm to celebrate her parent’s 25th wedding anniversary. This was the trip that I decided to ask her father for his blessing to marry her. I’ll admit I was probably the most nervous for a conversation maybe ever but I was confident I hadn’t given him any reason to think that I wouldn’t treat his daughter with the utmost respect and be a loyal lifelong partner. I got permission and began planning the proposal. We separately moved to Vancouver in September of 2023 which was perfect because the lower mainland had a few spots where we shared special memories. I decided to propose at the place where we first said I love you which was Bridal Veil Falls just outside of Chilliwack, BC. Me and my dad went up to the spot about a week before and set up a small natural arch in front of the waterfall and I contacted an old friend from bible school to take photos for us. On proposal day, we went disc golfing and I threw my discs into the grass to stall so the timing was right. Everything went well and thankfully she said yes!
