Things To Do

Visit NY's Finger Lakes

Winery Visits

In the summer, most of the wineries in the Finger Lakes are open seven days a week. Some have music or restaurants, as well as tasting opportunities. While there are vineyards and wineries throughout the region, more than half are within miles of Seneca Lake, which stretches 38 miles. The Seneca Lake Wine Trail has a collection of 35 wineries. ]The Seneca Lake Wine Trail and Seneca Lake American Viticultural Area (AVA) are known for high-quality Rieslings and other aromatic whites, which grow exceptionally well in our cool climate.

Taughannock Falls State Park (1 hour)

Taughannock Falls State Park: Take an hour on an easy flat trail -- or prepare with sturdy shoes and water bottles to take the day and hike the loop that covers it all. Taughannock Falls State Park's namesake waterfall is one of the outstanding natural attractions of the Northeast. Taughannock Falls plunges 215 feet past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the gorge. Gorge and rim trails offer spectacular views from above the falls and from below at the end of the gorge trail.

Enjoy the Water

There are many options for rentals of power boats, as well as canoes and kayaks, and paddle boards. Seneca Lake is gentle, large and deep. Surrounded by summer homes and rentals, with Watkins Glen at the south, Geneva at the north, and Himrod (Plum Point) on the west side.

Reagan's Canoe & Kayak Livery: Ask them to deliver down the hill to Plum Point Lodge, where you can easily enter Seneca Lake. This is how we discovered Plum Point Lodge in 2022, on a summer road trip when we wanted to go canoeing. There's more to the story of our first canoe trip together that we'll share during the weekend if you ask.

Seneca Lake Boat Rentals: Pontoon Boat rentals are available that dock at Showboat Motel Restaurant and Bar, next door to the Plum Point Lodge. Reserve early.

Trout Fishing: Seneca Lake is the Lake Trout capital of the world - at least according to them.

Corning NY (1 hour)

Corning is a wonderful small town, and the highlights are the Corning Museum of Glass and the Rockwell Museum. There are restaurants and shoppes along the walkable main street For my BBQ fans, Nickel's Pit BBQ is a worthwhile eatery. For a local breakfast experience, sit among the colorful vintage Corningware at Donna's Restaurant.

Corning Museum of Glass: Plan to spend a full day enjoying the exhibits and demonstrations. Consider taking time to create a piece of blown glass to bring home as a souvenir.

Rockwell Museum: I know you are thinking Norman...no, its not that Rockwell. This beautiful building, once City Hall, how houses Bob and Hertha Rockwell's collection of art including many pieces that represent the American West.

Niagara Falls (2 hours 20 min.)

Niagara Falls day or night is amazing! If you have time, spend a day walking along the river from calm, through rapids, to the might of the falls themselves. Then, do it again once the sunsets to see the brilliance of the lights and fireworks. Worth a full day there. Paths are well lit, and accessible to those needing an smooth walk/accessibility.

Consider having dinner at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute's Savor upscale dining restaurant . Make a reservation for lunch or dinner seating (Prixe Fix Dinner $35/3 courses) . We did for dinner, and loved it. Then enjoyed the colors and lights and sounds of the Falls afterwards with a stroll along the banks.
