This love story of Jimmy and Teresa crosses three continents and countless countries, cultures, and friends across the globe. But let's take it back to where God first started concocting this beautiful love recipe. Buckle up because it’s a long one.
It all started in Chile. Once upon a time, Jimmy decided to study abroad for a summer in Valparaiso, Chile. Jimmy had a goal to learn Spanish and decided that the only way to do it was to live with a family and immerse himself in the language.
After Chile, he still had not accomplished his goal and convinced his parents that he needed to do a semester in Spain. At 21 years young, Jimmy, soon to be known as "Yimmy" due to the inability of Spaniards to pronounce their "j’s," was shipped off to live with a host family in Seville, Spain.
This randomly selected family ended up being Teresa’s aunt and uncle, and Teresa lived next door! If you know Jimmy, it comes as no surprise that he soon found himself locked out of his house after forgetting his keys. On that fateful day, he knocked on the neighbor’s door, knowing that family lived there, and lovely Teresa answered. From that day forward, Teresa and Jimmy built a beautiful friendship, often walking her dog together, grabbing tapas and beers after class, and lending Jimmy a hand with his Spanish homework.
Then… about five years passed. In October 2019, Jimmy accepted a new job and had two weeks off before starting it. He called Teresa and her family, with whom he had lived, and they encouraged him to jump on the next flight. In a spur of the moment decision, Jimmy booked a flight to leave the next day.
This turned out to be the most important decision of his life because Jimmy and Teresa fell in love on that trip. In one week, they jumped out of a plane together, road-tripped to the coast of Spain, got tattoos, and had their first kiss!
It didn’t take long before Jimmy and Teresa started making plans to see each other. First, they went on a trip to Mexico together, then Costa Rica. Then, they MOVED to Costa Rica because, during COVID, the USA was closed to Spain and vice-versa. However, Costa Rica was open to both...
When everyone else was locked inside during COVID, they spent their mornings surfing and their evenings watching the sunset on the beach. After a few months exploring Costa Rica, they ditched the beach and headed to the countryside of Chilean Patagonia.
By this time, Jimmy had been telling Teresa tales of Chile for years. His friend Guillermo built a stunning house and adjacent apartment in Frutillar, Chile, nestled in the lakes and volcanoes region of Northern Patagonia.
This chapter was a special one. Teresa and Jimmy fell in love with the country and their friends, who became like family in Chile. Teresa now runs a boutique travel agency (shoutout Xenialand.com) throughout Chile and Argentina, and Chile has become the third place they call home.
Through it all, through thick and thin, they stayed together and made it fun. Teresa found in Jimmy the gringo of her dreams, a partner for every adventure, and someone who would test her limits and push them to be the best version of herself. Someone that is her home no matter where she is.
And Yimmy found his best friend that he couldn’t imagine life without. Someone that he can spend a 12-hour layover with and genuinely enjoy it. And someone that is a constant reminder of how to be a kinder, selfless, and thoughtful human being.
What began as a friendship fueled by a shared spirit of adventure blossomed into love and two kindred souls ready to squeeze life for every drop it’s worth.
Thank you, God, for carefully putting these steps in place for Teresa and Jimmy to meet each other from opposite sides of the world. And thank you all for making it to the end of this love story. We truly feel blessed to have friends across the world that we hope to share the best night of our lives with.
We would love to see you all in Spain, but if not, we plan to see you wherever you are soon!
