Larry and I each moved to northern Virginia after college to start our work careers in Washington, D.C. According to Larry, we first met at a friends' house watching the final episode of "Cheers". I guess I made an impression. Alas, I don't remember meeting him until a mutual friend formally set us up. We dated briefly in 1994/1995 but I wasn't sure and we broke up.Fast forward 18 years and Larry bumps into that mutual friend on the D.C. Metro (subway) and says he thinks he saw me recently. She responded that that couldn't be possible; that I had moved away and had been in New York State for years.Undaunted, Larry asked this friend to put us back in touch. Apparently I'd been on his mind for years! Thankfully, I had had an epiphany a few months before this about what I'd missed out on, so when the friend called to ask me if she could give Larry my contact information, I said without hesitation "absolutely!"And, the rest, as they say, is history. :-)

Worth the Wait!

When Larry and I got back in touch in February 2012, I was living in Westchester County, New York (just north of New York City) and he was still in Alexandria, Virginia. After a few weeks of "will he or won't he call tonight" anxiety on my part, we ended up with a fixed 8:30 pm nightly phone call. I traveled to Washington in April 2012 for our first re-connection meeting. Fear and nerves nearly overcame me yet again. But I relied on my belief that God had a plan for us, and by that summer we realized we were in love. Numerous trips to each other's homes as well as meeting in the middle in Philadelphia and Wilmington, Delaware followed.In 2015 I started looking for jobs in Ohio. Larry had moved back to his hometown of Columbus, Ohio about a year earlier. In late December I had an interview with Bowling Green State University Libraries. I was so thrilled the next month to be offered the job.There are still two hours between us, and our call is now at 7:30 pm, but when Larry suggested in April 2016 that we could get engaged "any time you want" I politely demurred and said good night - only to call him back within 5 minutes to say "let's do it". We made it official with a ring in September.

Larry and I have both been blessed over the years and have both well stocked our apartments. Combining our households will be an adventure in compromise as we decide who's of what to keep. We eagerly anticipate the day, however, when what was his or mine become "ours". We have created a small registry of items we would enjoy receiving for our lives together. Some are not traditional registry items but we're thinking of activities we can do together - games, books, movies, etc. What we can't put on the registry, however, is what we wish for most: that you'll be able to join us on our special day. That would be the greatest gift.

Note When Leaving the Golf Club

Heritage Club Drive is a loop off of Hilliard Rome Road (also called Main Street in that area). The north intersection of these two roads does not have a traffic light, the southern one does. SO, if you're like me and prefer to make left turns at traffic lights, when LEAVING the Golf Club turn right at the end of the drive and follow the road around the bend to the traffic light on Hilliard Rome Road.

From the Embassy Suites (about 20-25 minutes)

There are many options for how to get from the Embassy Suites (5100 Upper Metro Place, Dublin, OH) to the Heritage Golf Club. All take about 20 or so minutes (according to Google Maps). You can:Pick up 270 south from either Route 33 (or by going south on Franz Road to right on Tuttle Crossing Blvd) and take 270 south to the Cemetery Road exit, turn left (can't remember, it may be a traffic circle.....) onto Avery Road/Main Street and follow to Heritage Club Drive. (And don't worry if you miss the first entrance to it (right past the McDonalds), Heritage Club Drive is a loop so there is another chance to turn right onto it at the next traffic light.)Or: take Route 33 west to Avery Road and follow that all the way south the Heritage Club Drive. I'm not sure why, but Google Maps tends to avoid Avery Road/Main Street - perhaps because it can be busy (small shopping centers etc.) I've driven it during morning rush hour though and it wasn't too bad.

From Marriott Hotel (about 15-20 minutes)

Coming from the Marriott (5605 Blazer Pkwy, Dublin, OH 43017) the drive is about 15-20 minutes (according to GoogleMaps). Take Blazer Parkway south to a right on Tuttle Crossing Boulevard and then get on 270 south. Take the Cemetery Road exit and follow Cemetery Road until you reach Avery Road/Main Street (can't remember if it's a left turn or a traffic circle). Once on Avery Road/Main Street south, follow that until you reach Heritage Club Drive -- (And don't worry if you miss the first right turn onto Heritage Club Drive (right after McDonalds) - it's a loop so you'll have another chance at the next traffic light.

From Hotels at Intersection of Hilliard Rome Road and I-70 (about 15 minutes)

This is a straight shot up Hilliard Rome Road (note, when leaving the hotels, the left turn onto Renner Road can be a bit tricky due to all the traffic). If you want to turn at a traffic light, when leaving the hotels, turn right onto Trabue Road then a fairly quick left onto Rentra Drive (just before the La Quinta hotel). This will give you a traffic light to turn left onto Renner Road. Turn right when you reach Hilliard Rome Road and follow it to the traffic light/intersection with Heritage Club Drive. (When you see the "Tinapple Road" intersection you're getting close).

We've booked a block of 10 rooms here. It's a nice location in an office park area and close to one of the area malls with plenty of meal options. The rates are lower than our other block but you have to pay for breakfast.

Columbus Marriott Northwest

The rates here are slightly higher than the Marriott, but include breakfast, and all accommodations are "suites" (I think that means they have a "living room" section). We have a block of 10 rooms and are also hosting a Sunday brunch here as well. The hotel is 2 to 3 miles north of the Marriott (depending on your route), same general neighborhood - suburban residential, office parks and shopping. A GPS or other navigation tool is useful to find your way around.

There are other hotels in the Dublin / Hilliard area to choose from, such as the Hyatt Place, but we couldn't get a block of rooms there. The area in general is a suburban mix of residential / shopping / office parks. If you find a hotel in the Hilliard "Columbus West" corridor (south of our wedding location) it is more built up with shopping areas though I've stayed at the Fairfield Inn there several times with no problems except finding it the first time -- so use your GPS / navigation app.One last caveat - graduation at Ohio State University is on May 6th (the nerve! LOL). I don't know what that means in terms of hotel availability since we'll be a good 10 miles from campus, but just wanted to mention it in case you want to book early. I'm told there is another collegiate event at the OSU airport that weekend as well that does affect room availability in Dublin.
