Tinder. Yes indeed we met on Tinder, the "swipe right if they're hot, left if they're not" social media app. But I guess both of us were looking for something different. On the app, people list pictures of themselves (or lie and it's not themselves) and write a snippet of a biography, and mutual friends are often listed. I thought Alex was super attractive, and hey, he went to the Naval Academy so he can't be all bad right? We happened to have a mutual friend, Cabot Bisbee, the midshipman my family sponsored, so I felt a little bit better cause he wasn't a total stranger. I kept dodging Alex for about 2 weeks when he asked me to join him at a company (basically an assigned fraternity at USNA) party after one of the football games I attended, but I was still skeptical. The evening of our first date, I texted Cabot with a photo of Alex and asked A) if he knew Alex and B) if I should make up an excuse not to go on my date. Cabot's words of affirmation included: Yeah, I know him. He is in my company! And I can't attest to his character or anything but my roommate is friends with him. I took that as he was good enough to meet and at least get free dinner and drinks. Alex and I talked for over an hour before ordering our food and drinks with the bartender shooting us dirty looks and constantly asking us if we had decided on anything. After almost 2 1/2 hours, we said goodnight and Alex awkwardly shook my hand and said "bye." I walked to the car and that was that. But I was not going to let him go, so I did the clingy girl thing and messaged him the next day thanking him for a wonderful evening. I was lucky enough to get a second date, and a third, and a fourth....
