One Couple's Modern Neutral Beach Wedding at Nizuc Resort and Spa in Cancun, Mexico

To celebrate their love and marriage, Emma and Collin planned a romantic-yet-boho wedding in Cancun, Mexico. They welcomed 60 of their closest friends and family members down to the tropical resort for a multi-day celebration that blended cultures, showcased their personalities and was centered on having fun after a year-long postponement.

"We knew we wanted it to be a destination wedding," recalls Emma. "Cancun has always held a special place in our hearts. So when we found Nizuc, it was an easy decision. It was important to make it multiple days where we could spend quality time with our friends and family. We also decided from the beginning to keep our guest count small with 60 people. It was a tough decision but absolutely worth it. We wanted to incorporate a colorful fiesta night as our welcome reception to kick off the weekend and followed that up with a moody, boho modern ceremony and reception. We also asked our guests to dress according to the theme which made for some really amazing pictures."

The couple's weekend started with a "Mexican-meets-Mandala" beach party on the sand that set the tone for the multi-day destination wedding in Mexico. "For our welcome reception, we had multiple food and beverage items related to our dog Otto since he couldn't travel with us," shares Emma.

On the wedding day, sleek black, white, green and beige details anchored the couple's aesthetic. With Collin in a velvet tux and Emma in a chic gown with a modern corset, the couple enjoyed a beach wedding ceremony with a four-piece backdrop that framed that oceanfront marriage ceremony. "On the ceremony day, we had Collin's father-in-law as our officiant since we were legally married in 2020. Following the ceremony, we had a mariachi band greet our guests at the end of the aisle and lead everyone to cocktail hour. We wanted the escort card wall to be personal but also a gift that everyone could enjoy so our planner found these beautiful fans made in Mexico engraved with everyone's names." After getting their fans and sipping on cocktails as the sun went down, the crew dined under the stars together at one long 80-foot table decked out with rattan accents. And to end the night, Emma and Collin welcomed guests to a garden afterparty. The following day a pool party and recovery day capped off the party-packed weekend.

Of the weekend's aesthetics, Emma shares that "we had a vision in mind and communicated it to our planner. She then took our vision and brought it to reality. All design credit goes to her and our amazing vendor team! We wanted to give a nod to being at the beach but also make it more modern and dramatic. Using black and neutrals with the backdrop of Nizuc Resort was the perfect combination. The florals were very moody and boho with dried pampas and neutral tones. The ceremony backdrop was super important—we pulled inspiration from Kim Kardashian with the giant floral walls. That was a must! For the reception, we wanted complete drama which they delivered with stunning tablescapes and hanging arrangements."

To current to-be-weds in the throes of wedding planning, Emma and Collin offer this advice: "Hire vendors you trust! We can't say this enough. Wedding planning is stressful but on the day of, you don't want to worry about anything!! Focus on marrying the love of your life and celebrating with your people."
