Our story began at Jackson State University. Our mutual friend brought me to a kickback where we met. On that night, we talked and talked, like we knew each other forever. Our connection was felt from the very beginning. The next day, we exchanged numbers and began getting to know each other. With our busy college schedules, it was so hard for us to agree on a time for a first date but when we finally did, we felt that spark. On January 1, 2017 we made it official.
The first year of our relationship we were inseparable. We were the happiest we’ve ever been in a relationship and spent so much time together. However, in January 2018, Phil got the news that he was getting deployed to Kuwait for a year. When we got the news we both were hurt, anxious, and nervous about the future of our relationship. We made sure to spend every moment together leading up to his deployment and decided to try and make the relationship work through that time. That began the period of our relationship that was long distance.
We continued our long distance relationship for the duration of his deployment during the four years while I was living in East St. Louis for pharmacy school. The long distance relationship didn’t go without issues but we made a promise to see each other every month, alternating the city that we visited.
In May of 2022, I was graduating from pharmacy school and had to decide what I wanted as a career. I took a leap of faith and decided to move to Little Rock, AR for a residency and to close the distance. After 5 long years, we were finally back together again in the same city!!
Throughout that year we had a great time seeing each other daily. I finished my residency and we bought our first home. As we were preparing for our housewarming, it was to my surprise that Phil was proposing!
Now we are excited to officially become one on May 10,2025!
