Aaron and Trevor’s Story

Picture of Aaron and Trevor’s Story

In March 2020, everyone’s lives were turned upside down as the world entered a pandemic. For many, the time was devastating, scary, and unpredictable. For Aaron and Trevor, this would lead to the best thing that happened to either one of them.

When COVID hit, Aaron and Trevor both lived alone with their dogs…a mere five miles apart from one another. Tired of not leaving their homes, and realizing life is too short to not live authentically, Aaron and Trevor decided to take a bit of a risk. On nearly the same day approximately a month and a half in to the pandemic, both switched the settings on their dating apps to search for men and women. A day after doing so, they matched!

On April 26, 2020, Trevor packed a cooler and headed to Aaron’s house for a bonfire. What was meant to be a few quick beers and light conversation turned into an evening neither of them will ever forget. The two talked for hours as there was an undeniable, natural connection between them.

The following day, Trevor knew he wanted to see Aaron again. The night before, they had discussed having their dogs meet. So after Trevor finished work for the day, he asked Aaron if he could come over. This time Trevor would bring Charlie to go for a walk. Charlie and Maverick were fast friends and Aaron and Trevor continued to get to know each other.

Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. Aaron and Trevor continued to build the foundation of their relationship under the shelter of a global pandemic. The two had countless conversations about how much they valued the other, how similar their situations were, how unique of a story they had, and how nice it was to build a relationship in secret--not worrying about what anyone else had to say about it.

The further invested the two became in each other, the more clear it became that they would eventually have to out themselves to their friends and family. Aaron and Trevor decided it was time to start sharing the other with the important people in their lives.

The two slowly started to share their news in a manner that is true to their personalities. Aaron was more methodical about how he told his family and friends about Trevor. Trevor was a bit more haphazard and just started bringing Aaron to different functions anticipating that those in attendance would be able to read the situation. With each and every person brought into the loop, Aaron and Trevor were met with an outpouring of joy, love, and support.

In the months and years that followed Aaron and Trevor started to build a life together. They mourned the loss of Maverick. They adopted Goose. They moved in together. They traveled. They bought and renovated a home in Michigan. They proposed.
